Summer Time

Once the bell rang in the middle school, all the students began pouring out of their classrooms and headed to their lockers to pack up all their stuff. It was finally summertime and everyone wanted to leave instead of staying at the school any longer. A few of the students were way too eager that the teachers nearby had to calm them down.

One of the students among them was Mike Wheeler. He was at his locker packing up his things and waiting for the others in his friend group to meet up with him. The boy had never felt more happier in his life at this moment. The love of his life, Eleven, had come back to him after he thought she was dead and they were able to stop the Upside Down and the Shadow Monster. Then they got the lab to shut down with the help of his sister, Nancy and her boyfriend, Jonathan Byers.

While he used to be depressed and angry all the time, Mike always had a constant smile on his face because everyday he thought about El and her being with him. Unfortunately, she had to drop out of school since the work was too hard for her, but he always saw her after school. El had been adopted by Chief Hopper and he had been helping her with her studies. They lived in a cabin in the woods, until Hopper decided that it was safe enough that they bought a nice house on Maple Street, which happened to be Mike's street.

As he closed his locker, Mike saw his four friends, Lucas Sinclair, Will Byers, Dustin Henderson, and Max Mayfield. He smiled at them and put his backpack on his shoulders. The five friends started walking down the halls together to get to the exit.

"Finally it's summer! I feel like school has lasted forever this year!" Dustin said, sounding enthusiastic.

Lucas couldn't help but roll his eyes at his friend. "Probably because of all the Upside Down shit and the fact that we made friends with more people with superpowers," he said. "With events like that, things go by way fast."

Max shrugged at her boyfriend. "At least it's over now, huh? No more of that bullshit and now we are living our lives the way we please," she said. The girl was especially happy about this because she too was a number. She was always worried about the government finding her, but now that they were shut down, they couldn't go after her. That made her be able to live without fear.

Will couldn't help but smile at his friends. "Max is right. Lets just forget about this stuff and focus on the now. It's summer! We should be living life instead of talking about that stuff," he suggested. Everyone agreed immediately because they wanted to get straight into the summer activities that would come for them.

Dustin nodded. "Besides, we all know that Mike needs to make a special trip to his girlfriend!" He said in a teasing voice.

Mike blushed and rolled his eyes. "Shut up Dustin. El and I-" he said before getting cut off.

"-were making out at the Spring Fling after singing that weird song you two are obsessed with. It's like Will with the Clash, except he's liked it for a long time. You never liked the Police until El came along," Dustin pointed out.

The dark haired boy shrugged. "Opinions change Dustin. I like the song now because it's a good song," he protested. There was no hope in denying his love for El, but Mike hated being teased about it. His friends would never know how much he loved the girl. They never have, and they never will.

The five kids went outside the school and went over to the trash cans. They all dumped their school books, papers, and supplies into the trash, all grinning. They had waited a year to do that and now was the time. Once they finished, Mike put his backpack back on and went over to the phone by the wall. He put in a few coins in had in his pocket and dialed the number to a certain house phone. He heard the other line ring before someone picked up.
