El laid down on a cot in a loft inside the abandoned building. Kali was going to show her a vision of her mama and her birth father. She was also going to see what could have happened if Papa hadn't taken her away when she was born. Her mama's dream circle showed her getting taken at birth by that bad man and her mama getting tortured. There was still more to know about her past and how exactly she was born.
Kali sat down on a chair next to her and started to reach out with her mind. "El, before I show you any of this, just know that this could be dangerous. Don't make yourself known to the people in the vision. They won't be able to see you, but if you call out their names, it'll disrupt the whole thing and you'll wake up. Just be careful and I'll keep watch over you, Alright?" She informed her.
El nodded at her. "Alright. I'm ready," she said before closing her eyes. Kali put her hand on her head and focused into her mind. Everything started to fade out and the world she was now in went away.
Opening her eyes, El took in her surroundings. She saw that the setting she was in looked very familiar. The white walls, the tank, and the men in white coats made it too obvious. This was the lab. El closed her eyes to calm herself, reassuring her brain that she wasn't really there and to not make any noise. She looked around at the bad men in the room and recognized one of them. It was Papa.
"He's dead. He's dead. He's dead. Don't scream," El said in her head.
Papa was talking to a woman with long blonde hair and wearing a hospital gown. "Mama." El immediately recognized her face, but she looked a little different. She looked less broken and more full of life.
"Now, Terry, these tests could hurt you, but they won't kill you. There's no need to be afraid. I'll be here with you, dear," Papa reassured her, holding Mama's hand.
Mama smiled at the bad man. "Thanks Martin. And I'm not afraid," she told him before kissing him. El made a face at the sight of her mama and papa. They were together?
The scene suddenly changed as the room with the bath went away and changed to the hallway of the bath. El noticed Mama running down the hall, looking for Papa. She had a wide smile on her face and was holding her stomach. She was excited about something, but wasn't exactly sure on what.
Suddenly, Mama froze in her tracks when she noticed something down the hall. Papa was dragging a crying little girl into the dark room. Before he threw her in, he slapped her across the face, causing her to cry more. El ran over as fast as she could so she could see if there was a tattoo on the girl's arm. Sure enough, there was.
The tattoo said 003.
The original 003.
The 003 that wouldn't see a bright future ahead.
El teared up at the sight of the innocent girl being thrown into the dark room. Mama was upset as well because she had marched up to Papa and slapped him in the face. El wanted to cheer for her, but she couldn't make her presence known.
"What the hell is wrong with you Martin?! Now you're torturing children?! Does the girl even know about her parents?!" Mama yelled.
"Calm down Terry. This is purely for scientific research. The child will be safe and not be killed. She just needs to behave herself and learn her manners," Papa told her in a calm voice that was all too familiar to El.
Mama glared at the bad man, angry at what she had just seen. "All I know is that you will not be harming my child! That's rught. I'm pregnant with your baby and you will never touch her! I would rather die than to have a child abuser near my child!" She yelled at him. "Go to hell, Brenner. Our relationship is finished."
El's eyes widened at the revelation. Papa really was her birth father and at this time, Mama was pregnant with her. How did Mama not know that what she had said to him would be dangerous to inform him about? That's why he was there when she was born. He knew about Mama's pregnancy and knew she would have powers. She teared up at the thought of being separated from her mama. She wished that she wasn't stuck in a dream circle.
That was when the scene changed again, and it was all too familiar. Mama was going to give birth to her and Aunt Becky was helping her out. Only this time, there was no sight of Papa in one of the doctor's outfits. El raised an eyebrow at that missing detail of the dream circle. Why wasn't he there? No, this was if she wasn't taken away, so Papa wouldn't be there to kidnap her.
As soon as El watched herself be born, she saw herself as a baby be given to Mama. Mama cries of joy as she held her in her arms and named her Jane. Oh how El wished that this vision was reality. She wished she could know her Mama more.
While thinking about her mother, the scene switched and El was standing on sand. She took in her surroundings and realized she was on a beach. It wasn't Hawkins because there aren't any beaches in Indiana, so where was she? There were many people on the beach and the waves were crashing back and forth. She started walking through the sand to look around, trying to find anyone she would need to see in this vision.
Mama was there, wearing a white dress and her hair was down. There was also a young boy in a yellow and white baseball uniform and a man in a yellow hat and red shirt and jeans. They were with Mama, but who were they? El looked a little to her left and saw two girls making a sand castle together, one of the girls she recognized from the dream circle. It was her. The other girl had red hair and a red and yellow bathing suit on. El didn't know who this girl was, but it was clear that her young self was friends with this girl.
"Jane come here!" Mama called out to her. Jane walked over to Mama and she sat down on a chair that was nearby. "We need to go. Say bye to Max before we leave. A storm is coming and we have to go. I'll start packing up all our stuff, okay sweetheart?" she told her. El's eyes widened and she looked back at the other girl, whom Jane was walking back towards. If that was Max, then this had to be California. Max had told her that California had beautiful beaches and that she grew up there after escaping Hawkins lab.
El looked back at her Mama as she packed up the stuff. Jane came back over and started to grab her stuff. The boy in the baseball uniform was packing up his stuff as well, but he ended up tripping in the sand. Jane started to giggle at the boy, who shot a glare at her.
"Jane, be nice to your brother? You okay honey?" Mama scolded.
The boy got up and nodded. "I'm fine, Mom. Dad, can you help me with this?" He asked the man.
El's eyes widened again at the exchange. This boy could've been her brother and the man could've been her new father instead of Hopper. They could've been a normal family if it weren't for Papa.
Just then, there was a sound of thunder and a lightning strike from the sky. Everyone started to make a run for it as the storm started. El looked up at the sky, but saw what she didn't expect to see. The sky was red, just like the Upside Down. Thunder and lightning were coming from the clouds above as the Mind Flayer appeared in the sky.
El tried to run away, but all of a sudden, she was caught up in a wave. She kicked and splashed around as she spun around underwater. She tried to get to the surface with the techniques Mike taught her at the pool, but she struggled to swim. Then she used her powers to make a opening in the water. Running out of breath, she used as much energy as she could to swim out of the wave and get to shore. She laid down on her back, trying to catch her breath and coughing out all the water that went down her throat.
The Mind Flayer peered down at her, clearly getting angry at the fact that she didn't die. El stood up and stared worriedly at the sky, afraid of the monster. "You made a huge mistake closing the gate, Eleven. Now I will kill you and all of Hawkins and the world. The gate will be reopening again. Your father and your boyfriend are first," he spoke into her mind.
El started to breathe heavily at the thought of Hopper and Mike. They couldn't die. They couldn't. They were innocent people! "MIKE! DAD! MIIIIIIKE!" El screamed with tears falling down her cheeks. The Mind Flayer started to lift its shadow leg over to her as she continued to scream.
Just then, El woke up, still screaming. Kali immediately took action by grabbing her by the shoulders and shaking her to get her out of her stupor. El took deep breaths to calm down as she sat up from the cot and looked over at Kali in worry.
"We have to go back to Hawkins."
