Blurbs are an absolute big part of your story, trust me. People say 'don't judge a book by its cover' so people don't do that (well some do still) But for me, I look at the blurb.
So the blurb is an very important part of a book. It's supposed to draw someone in and make them read your story.
So here I'm going to give some tips and dos and don'ts of writing a blurb!
Dos
-Reference the genre and theme. Don't make the person think you're writing a love story when it's actually a horror story. Now don't get me wrong, there might be romance in a horror story but the blurb is supposed to signify the genre and theme that is the most important to the story.
-Create intrigue around the main conflict. Make the person feel intrigued.
-Dive right in and introduce your protagonist. This is a great way to introduce a person, not in the book but the blurb.
-Keep it short and punchy.
Don'ts
-Give away any spoilers, no matter how tempted you are.
-Give a summary of the first chapter.
-Open with "In a world," or any other overused phrase.
-Give everything away.
-Say how amazing your book is.
-Compare yourself to other writers or your book to other books.
Tips on writing a blurb
-Rethink and Rewrite. No matter how hard it will be to make a blurb, just rethink about it and then rewrite. So your first blurb sucked, but then you thought how to make it better and then you rewrote it and it came out pretty good.
-Stick to something that represents your writing.
-Write about a scene that happens in the story later on.
