It felt like it has been forever since I've seen my parents. Ever since I moved, my time being with them in person is very limited. I'm so glad Eli decided to come with me. I'll get to spend time with the people I love the most.
"Mai and Austin. Follow me into the kitchen." I heard my mom say.
When all three of us were in the kitchen, we listened as my mom began to speak.
"Austin, I'm going to tell you this one time and one time only. Do not, under any circumstances, tell Eli or anybody else at this reunion, about Mailan. It's her place to tell him, if she hasn't already, not yours. Do you understand me?" She asked as she looked at him with all seriousness in her face.
"Ok ok I got it." He said.
Right after Austin finished his sentenced, the guys were back.
"Mai why did you pack all of this stuff for just two days." Eli said as he walked through the front door.
"Two days? Why only two days? The reunion is four days sweetheart." My mom said sounded disappointed.
"Yeah, I know it's four. But. Eli and I have to work the other two days, so we have to go back home early." I lied.
"I'm proud of you, Mailan. You're responsible, you're smart, you married a wonderful man, you have your life in order at such a young age. I couldn't be more proud than I am right now." My mother said as she started to tear up.
I went by her and hugged her as she continued to cry on my shoulder.
"Thank you, mom. I couldn't have done it without you and dad. I love and appreciate you guys so much." I said.
"Ok ok enough with the heartfelt shit. Can we have some fun now?" Austin said.
We all laughed at his comment. He never liked it when the girls around him started to cry. He always got irritated when it happened. Typical Austin, I see not much has changed.
"I don't know what I walked into, but I'm about to go put food on the grill. You guys are welcome to come and join me in the backyard if you'd like." My dad said as him and Eli brought in the rest of the bags from the car.
I couldn't stand my parents at times, but my love for them never changed. They knew how to irritate me, but they also knew how to be parents. Good ones at that. I truly was
proud to call them "mom" and "dad".
"Let's go." I said excitedly to everybody as I started to make my way out the house and everybody followed.
