Seeing Mailan interact with her family made me realize how much I love mine. I was proud to see that their relationship was so strong, nowadays it's very rare for everyone in the family to be so close. Even if she didn't have me by her side, I knew she had them and that alone was comforting.

Everyone was in the backyard when Austin came up with the funny idea of telling funny stories of Mailan when she was little. I thought it was hilarious, so I pulled up a chair along with Adeline and Mailan and decided to listen.

"Mai, you remember when we all went to the movies together and you had to pee really bad?" He said as everyone started to laugh until their stomach hurt.

"I have no idea what you're talking about." She said sarcastically.

I've been around Mailan's parents before, but this was the first time I ever spent time with them and her cousin. So I really didn't know any of her stories, I was dying to hear this one though.

"Well, I haven't heard about it. So please enlighten me." I said as I laughed.

"Ok so, we all went out to eat and Mailan kept drinking everybody's water. Literally, she drank hers, mine, her mother's and her dad's. So after we were done at the restaurant, we went to the movies. While we are getting out of the car, Mailan is doing her "I gotta pee" dance. Adeline tells Steven, "Squeeze her Steve, squeeze her!". Mai takes off running until she gets into the movies and Steven eventually catches up to her, he squeezes her and he squeezes her so hard, she pees her pants."

I sat there and laughed so hard.

"How old was she?" I asked in between laughs.

"She was only like 12 maybe 13." He said as he laughed. "William was so embarrassed. He couldn't believe his pants were wet."

He must've realized he stumbled over his words because he quickly tried to correct himself, and started to stutter.

"I mmm.. mean....Mailan...not him, I meant her."

Everyone's laughter died down and everyone had shocked faces. Me on the other hand, I picked up on it. But, for the sake of her parent's house, I acted like I didn't notice. Instead, I continued on with the conversation as if nothing happened.

"That's really funny. Did she walk around for the rest of the night like that." I asked no longer amused.

"Yup and that was it." He said dryly as he got up and walked back into the house.

"Steve, you need help? I'll go get the plates."

After those two got up, there were only two more people who haven't moved. Mailan and I. She couldn't even look at me. Which was fine, at this point, I was done. I scoffed and shook my head, I got up and went inside leaving Mailan behind.

"Hey Austin, do you mind showing me to the bathroom?" I asked.

"Umm, it's down the hall. First door on your left." He said avoiding eye contact with me.

"Thanks." I said as I made my way into the bathroom.

I wasn't exactly upset with Mailan's family. I didn't expect them to rat her out on her secrecy. I was upset and beyond furious with Mailan because now I know for a fact now, that there was something I didn't know.

At this point, I knew it was over between us. But, I wasn't going to leave without closure. I'll leave Mailan to spend the rest of the time she needed with her family, me on the other hand, I was going home. I know that this reunion was supposed to be two days for us and the rest of the family would meet up tomorrow, but I was leaving a day early.

As I made my way out of the bathroom, I heard them trying to whisper about what happened outside. I didn't really care to eavesdrop or try to figure out what they were saying. Only thing I knew for sure was, after today, Mailan and I are no longer married. I'll take whatever steps necessary to get away from her. I'll see her when I see her.

"Hey guys umm.. family emergency came up. I have to head back home." I said as I picked up my bags and started walking towards the door.

I looked back before opening the door, "Mai, I hope you have a good time with your family." I said as I walked out.

Just as I was about to walk out, I heard someone screaming for me to wait. I knew it was Mailan which is why I kept walking.

"Eli!!!!" She screamed as she finally caught up to me and grabbed my arm, causing me to stop and look at her.

"What man?" I said with quite a bit of attitude in my voice.

"I can explain." She said as she looked down.

"Get the fuck outta my face and go spend the rest of your time with your family." I said as I scoffed before pushing past her and walking away.

As mad as I was, I wasn't petty enough to take the car with me and leave her to find her way back home. I would take whatever public transportation I needed, to get me to that airport and back home. I love Mailan, don't get me wrong, but I refuse to be treated like this. I've been lied to that was for sure. I just want to know everything that I already don't know.

We're obviously not meant to be. But she will clearly be the best mistake I ever made.
