When Elijah left me back at the meeting, it honestly hurt me. We've been together for 6 years and counting. Well, we've always said "and counting" but now I'm not so sure. In high school, we were always labeled as "Relationship Goals". He was the football player, I was the cheerleader wearing his jersey, attending every football game. When I quit the team and joined choir, he attended all of my performances and picked me up from every practice.

Around the time everyone did "prom-posal", I was in a very emotional state. My mom got really sick, my dad also got sick, my grandmother died, and everything was just a big weight on my shoulders. But, he came in and made me feel like nothing could hurt me. He knew how I was feeling around that time and surprised me one Wednesday morning with a "Prom-Posal". The way he gave advice, talked to me, held me, let me know everyday and night how much I meant to him, made me feel like I was the queen of the world.

A year after high school, reality set in. I really was about to marry my best friend. We had our house, our cars, our jobs, we even had our furniture in place. We were/are very hard workers, so everything we had, we got it on our own. We were everything everybody wished and hoped for. But more importantly, we were everything I wished and hoped for. He was not only my best friend, but he was my boyfriend and now, he's my husband.

Somewhere along the lines I lost him emotionally. I laughed a lot because of him, I believed in love because of him, I enjoyed life because of him. Before I met him, my life was dull, boring, full of pain, and when he came in my life he reminded me what happiness felt like. I want everything to to go back to the way things were when we first met. I miss us.

-Flashback-

I just graduated Florence Nightingale Middle School and unfortunately I wouldn't be joining the rest of my friends at Van Nuys High School. My family and I are moving to San Francisco in about 3 months and I'll be attending Lowell High School....by myself...

(After moving in & Getting settled in)

Today is going to be my first day of school and I'm a nervous wreck. I don't have any friends, I don't know anybody, and I don't know my way around. This is going to be interesting.

As I walk in the school, I quickly try to find the main office. When I walk in I introduce myself to the lady that's sitting at the desk.

"Hi, my name is Mailan. I'm new here & I was wondering if someone can show me around to my classes?"

"Hi Mailan, nice to meet you and welcome to Lowell."

As she was speaking, one of the students walked in. He was tall, he looked like he was mixed, he had tattoos of roses on his left arm, and he was kind of muscular.

"This is Elijah Carson, he's what we like to call a 'runner'. He shows all of our new students around and he takes passes to different classes for us. He will be giving you a tour of the school and he will be showing to your classes and your locker."

"Ok cool, Thank you."

As I turn around to leave the office, Elijah is already holding the door open for me to walk out. When we get into the hallway, he starts to make conversation with me.

"So where you from?", he asks.

"I'm from LA."
"Nice! I've always wanted to go there in the summer. What grade are you in?"

"I'm a freshman."

"Really? So am I. You know anybody here or is this like a new beginning for you?"

"No, I don't know anyone. So I guess you could say it's kind of like a new beginning for me."

"That's cool. Don't be afraid to talk to people here. Everybody is pretty nice, especially me.", he said as he winked at me.

I just shook my head and laughed.

"Thanks. I'm glad."

"You don't talk much do you?"

"I do. I'm just shy in the beginning. Once I get used to someone, they can't get me to shut up." , I said as I looked around.

He hasn't taken his eyes off of me yet.

He laughed and looked down, then looked back up at me again before he spoke again.

"Challenge accepted.", he said as he looked at me and smiled.

-End of flashback-

I slightly smiled and shook my head as I caught myself reminiscing. When he said "challenge accepted", he meant it. From that day forward he would always catch me in the hallway and did his best to make me come out of my shell, which he successfully did. It went from seeing him everyday in school, to him asking for my number. After he asked for my number, we obviously talked more than we did in school. We started talking more and more and that eventually led to us hanging out more in our free time. This all carried on for about 5 months before he finally asked me to be his girlfriend. Once I said yes, it was the best choice I made and the best thing that's happened to me in a while.

He was my best friend first. Now I feel like everything we once had, is crumbling to pieces.
