- Rin's POV -

Kaneki and I were walking to his place, school ended about ten minutes ago, man his place his far! You know I could actually tell that he was starting to get more comfortable with me, it was kind of obvious. I liked that, seeing him happy just makes me feel better. I still feel this weird aura around him though....

More minutes of walking....

"So....not to intrude, but...why are you always at the back of the classroom, don't you wanna interact with the others..?" I asked, trying to start a somewhat normal conversation.

Kaneki touched his chin once again, rubbing it a lot, this time it looked as if he was thinking deeply.

"....well...I've never had many friends in my life...you're pretty much one of the only ones I've got..." Kaneki responded, his voice seemed to be in a calm yet rough tone.

"So....you did have another friend..?" I asked, then slapped a hand over my mouth, "I'm sorry, curiosity killed the cat...aha..."

"It's fine..." Kaneki looked around, as if checking for someone, "You....you remind me of him a lot..."

"Oh, uh...I do...?" I replied in an awkward tone, I think that meant it was a good thing.

"Y-yeah.....c-can we move...somewhere else....I wanna...tell you something..." Kaneki mumbled a bit, he sounded reserved.

'Oh man, his voice tone is actually making me feel guilty for asking, I wonder what's up...?' I wondered, but then just gave a nod.

"Yeah sure, how about when we get to your place?" I suggested, for once I actually had a reasonable idea, wow.

All Kaneki did was nod, he started walking a bit faster.

Finally, when they reached Kaneki's house....

- Kaneki's POV -

I honestly trust Rin, I trust him enough to talk to him about Hide, but just to be safe I don't want to talk outside. I opened the door to my house, letting Rin inside, allowing him to sit down on the bed in my room. I never realized how small my room was...

"So..I guess I should continue..." I mumbled slightly, sitting down on a chair near a desk in the corner, as I faced Rin.

"Go ahead." Rin sounded much more confident than me, I should've known that.

"....I don't bring up this topic to many people, so don't say anything, you promise?" I suddenly sounded serious, my tone must've been intimidating because Rin had flinched at it.

"Alright..." Rin responded, I could tell he was listening with his....pointed ears....odd.

"...My best friend....his name was Hide, he was always so bright....and always there to cheer me up...he knew when things were serious, and knew when he could be playful.." I started, hesitating a bit before I continued, "It was impossible to hide anything from him...he really did care....but then...."

My voice had trailed off, I could feel my eyes getting a bit watery, and I coughed.

"You okay dude..?!" Rin quickly got up, coming to my side as he put a hand on my shoulder, trying to calm me, "You don't gotta tell me if it hurts that much..."

I cleared my throat, calming myself down.

"N-no....It's fine...I want to share, because I r-really do trust you..." I stuttered a bit, giving a slight sigh.

"Alright..." Rin sighed a bit, taking his hand off my shoulder, but he still stood beside me.

"Anyways....he...h-he went missing....a-and...we never f-found him..." I stopped myself from mumbling, as the feels started to hit me again, "....I felt so alone...b-but then....I was taken in here....t-then I met you....you made me feel happy, s-something I find hard to do....at least now..."i

Rin was quiet for a moment, his hands were fists, "....Kaneki....stand up now..."

I swallowed a lump forming in my throat, but cautiously got up. I was caught off guard as Rin hugged me tightly, I could feel he had a tough grip.

"I understand...thanks for telling me though, it really does matter." Rin then let go, looking at me as he had a big grin plastered on his face, which exposed the sharp fangs.

I gave a nod, somehow I would pay Rin back for all he's done for me until now. I was about to sit back down until I heard a rattling noise...suddenly, without a single warning a human figure burst through the window, shattering it into tiny pieces.

"Holy-" Rin's outburst was cut off as the human figure uppercut him so hard, that he actually got knocked out cold.

"Rin!" I shouted, but before I could even try to attack, the human figure did the same move to me, also knocking me out cold.

Before passing out, I had hit the floor with a hard thud, all I saw was a pale blonde haired figure, looming over me with a single kakugan eye, on the right.
