Suspicion |Chapter 4|

- Kaneki's POV -

Everything was dark around me, I was walking endlessly through this void of nothingness, I froze as I heard talking...it sounded like my voice but it wasn't me talking.

"Flesh...flesh....flesh....flesh!!" My voice had gotten louder, it was practically yelling now.

"W-what is going on-" I was cut off as suddenly I was surrounded in a circle of blue flames, I couldn't escape.

I fell over, fear pulsing through me, my ears felt like they were ringing as the word flesh kept repeating, over and over. I let out a scream that sounded more like yelling as the blue flames tried to engulf me, I only now realized my hunger pains that jabbed at me harshly, but then...

My eyes snapped open, sweat dripping from my forehead as I panted. It had all just been a dream, no....it was a nightmare. I slowly sat up, twitching a bit as I looked around, cautiously. It had all felt so real, but I knew why I had that nightmare....I'm afraid.

'I really need to eat soon...' I thought, getting out of my bed as I realized it would be time for school soon.

I took a quick look under the bed, just to be one hundred percent sure that the sword hadn't done anything. It was still there where I had left it, so I just kept it there and quickly got changed into my True Cross Academy uniform.

- Rin's POV -

To be honest, I don't even know if I want to go to school, even though I have to. I'm usually chill but now that I randomly flamed up I'm somewhat doubtful....it's weird....I don't like this. I mean, sure it happened one time it shouldn't be that much of a big deal, plus now I actually have my sword so it shouldn't do it again.

'Yukio would be suspicious if I didn't go to school anyways...' I thought, giving a slight unamused look as I just wandered around the room, already changed.

I had my sash with my sword in it on my back, then started to head out the door, off to the school.

Five minutes later....

I was early for school, wow that's a once in a life time experience that will most likely never, ever happen again.  I was outside the school, where a couple of people stood, I was calm for a moment but then realized...

'Hey, there's Kaneki!' I thought, walking over to him since he seemed to be by himself.

"Kaneki!" I called, still walking up to him.

- Kaneki's POV -

I turned around once I heard my name be called, I saw it was Rin again and I gave a small wave.

"Hello, Rin." I greeted, as he stood in front of me, I didn't show any nervousness in my tone, but on the inside I could feel some suspicion rising in me.

The reasoning for my suspicion is because, my eyes had caught sight of something familiar....it was the red sash, it looked exactly like the one I had, but the question is, does he also have a sword? My nervousness started to show and I unintentionally cracked my fingers again.

"You know what....that looks cool, let me try!" Rin had chirped cheerfully, trying to crack his fingers the way I did.

'I hate having to be suspicious of him....he's the only friend I have right now...I don't want to lose him...' I thought, forcing a faint, non teeth showing smile to come across my face.

I watched as Rin attempted to crack his fingers, it wouldn't make the cracking sound but he was doing it properly.

"Sheesh, this is harder than it looks." Rin chuckled a bit, putting his hand down.

I was quiet for a couple seconds, before intentionally grabbing Rin's hand, "Let me show you."

Rin had given a shrug, allowing me to use his hand to show him how to actually make it crack. I put his hand in the correct position, then forced his thumb down as hard as I could. A loud crack broke through the air again.

"Ow!!" Rin screeched, pulling his hand away, as he held it with the other.

My face flushed red, and I put my hands so they covered my face and uncovered eye, "I-I'm so sorry."

Rin was quiet for a moment, but then gave a smirk, that eventually turned into a cheerful smile as he removed my hands from my face.

"Ah, don't worry, it's cool and plus it only hurts for a split second." Rin put his hand up, moving his fingers to show me that he was fine.

A single thought crossed my mind, before I spoke, 'His teeth are sharp, like fangs...'

I gave this awkward smile, but then I busted out this shaky laughter because my emotions were all jumbled together, it felt nice to laugh, since I hadn't done it in a while.

"Hey Kaneki." Rin suddenly started to speak, "Wanna hang out today maybe?"

I was surprised by the offer, but temptations got the best of me again, "Sure!"

I don't think anyone can understand my happiness, I like this feeling, especially since my life has only been tragedy after tragedy. Like I said, I would never replace Hide, but for now, I consider Rin my best friend.
