I woke to the smell of coffee and rolled over in bed. I opened my eyes and Jay was sitting at the edge of the bed smiling.
“James! Get ouuuut!” I pulled the covers over my head.
“Good morning sunshine” He laughed.
“I look like death in the morning! I dont want you to see me like this!” I always look my worst in the morning. I couldnt believe he was in my room... Wait a second..
“How the hell did you get in here?” He tugged on the blanket but I refused to pull my head out.
“I called and ordered us breakfast. Then when the guy came to deliver it, I said Id take it in, so he opened the door. Now will you please come out from under there?”
I took the covers off of my head and I knew I looked absolutely insane.
“Wait. Seriously? You could have been a serial killer! Or a rapist!” He started to laugh.
“But I am neither of those things.. so it's okay. And you look beautiful.” He ruffled my hair and stood up.
I was about to get out of bed to go the bathroom and remembered that I wasnt wearing pants. I had borrowed one of Jay's shirts to sleep in. I looked over at him and he was facing away from me, getting breakfast. I ripped the covers off and made a mad dash to the bathroom. Praying that I wouldnt fall. No such luck. My foot got caught in the edge of the blanket and I crashed to the floor, completely tangled in the sheets and blankets. He turned around and tried to come to my aid, but being his normal clumsy self he too got tangled and fell beside me. We looked at each other and broke out into laughter. After we untangled ourselves, he smiled and kissed my cheek. We hadnt kissed again since the one in the airport. There were plently of opertunities, but nope, nothing. I was NOT about to make the move again.. The ball was in his court now, it was his move to make.We ate our breakfast in bed and when we were finished Jay picked up the dishes and put them back on the tray.
“You, need to get ready.” I looked up.
“Ready for..?”
“The day. Ive got big plans for us today.” He winked at me and walked out the door.
I sat there for a minute, confused. I heard Martin tell the boys last night after the concert that today was going to be filled with interviews..
I got up and started the shower, I looked at the outfit that I had bought yesterday when the boys were doing an interview. Black skinnys that were a mix between leggings and jeans, but werent jeggings.. and a white top that had panels of lace throughout it. And the shoes.. they were my favourite part of the outfit. Black wedges with multicolored flowers with a slingback and straw heels. They were a thing of beauty.
I heard a knock at the door about an hour later just as I was finishing up my makeup.
“One second!” I double checked myself in the mirror, grabbed my cellphone and wallet, and went to open the door.
Jay was standing there. With a single red rose. I felt my face flush and my cheeks start to burn.
“Are you ready?” He asked, holding out his hand with the rose. I smiled, took the rose from him, and planted a kiss on his cheek.
“Absolutely” He laced his fingers in mine and we walked out of the hotel.
Jay told me that Martin had let him skip a few of the interviews today, with the promise that he would make it to the most important one at 4pm.
After a walking tour of chicago we stopped in a little place called Cafe Mnemonic. It was the most adorable place I had ever been to. We sat down and ordered tea. Then I saw a glass case out of the corner of my eye. I walked over and there were hundreds of different kinds of truffles inside. I felt my jaw literally drop. Truffles were one of my favourite things in the entire world. Jay was back at the table looking through the menu. I ordered a box of 15 truffles and told the woman behind the counter to mix them up, and not tell me what kinds she put in. I took them back to our table and sat down.
“What. Are. Those?” Jays eyes widened as I opened the box.
“Truffles. Lets play a game.” confusion washed over his face.
“Dont you want lunch first?”
“Nope. I dont see the point in waiting. I mean, what if I die while Im eating my lunch?” I pointed out.
“Is that probable?” He smiled and looked at me.
“It's possible. What if I choke? What if an asteroid come hurling down onto the restaurant?... I'll tell you what, if you swear on your eternal soul that I'll make it through my lunch, then I'll wait. But before you answer, consider that if something does happen, you'll have to live the rest of your life knowing that not only did you lie to me, but you denied of my one last indulgence. Are you prepared to shoulder that kind of responsibility?” He made it through almost my entire explanation before be laughed.
“You had better not die on me.” He said, and I could hear the concern in his voice.
“I wont.” I stuck my tongue out and he smiled.
“So how do we know what kinds they are?” He asked
“We dont. That the fun. Now, close your eyes and open your mouth.” He closed his eyes and stuck his tongue out. I laughed and picked up a truffle, placing it on his tongue. He opened his eyes and finished chewing.
“Success?” I asked
“That was amazing. Your turn.”
I smiled, closed my eyes, and opened my mouth.
This had been the perfect day.
