Three days later may 2171
I awake in a small hospital room with heavy curtains covering the windows. The lights are dimmed down enough to keep my eyes from hurting. I slowly get up and I roll my IV bag towards the window with me. I try and open the curtains but am stopped by a nurse who has entered my room.
"Please don't open the windows till we adjust your eyes to the light," she tells me and I return to my bed. She sits down next to my bed on a stool with wheels."What is your name sweetheart" she politely asks
"Luna Jacobson. Where am I?" I question
"Your above ground on earth's surface. How old are you"
"Seventeen. How long have I been here?"
"You have been in a medically induced coma for 3 days. How do you feel?"
"I feel fine. Where is my brother?"
"Your brother is safe. Since you feel fine come with me" she says getting up "Oh I almost forgot. Wear these" she hands me a pair of black glasses
"I don't wear glasses" i turn them around and observe them.
"There sunglasses"
"There what?" I say puzzled
"There special glasses. They keep the light down. It'll make it easier for you to see"
I put them on and she's right the room is darker now but I can still see. She opens the door and I follow her while I roll my IV bag. We walk the hall to a small washroom. She takes my IV out and another nurse comes and gets it.
"My name is Amy and I'll be your nurse. I have to talk to you about the bunker. I also must bath you" she says as she reaches into the cabinet and pulls out a pair of underwear and shirt to cover my top part. I awkwardly take them from her."Put these on while the water fills," she tells and leaves the room. I take my hospital gown off and I put the clothing on. I sit on the edge of the bath and I dip my feet in. I've never had a bath. In the bunker, we were only allowed to take showers once a month to conserve the limited water supply. The nurse comes back in a pours some bath salts into the tub. The smell is familiar but I don't know what scent it is.
"What is that smell?" I ask
"It's lavender," she says and I immediately remember my mother. She used to put a oil behind her ears and on her wrists before going to work. The scent was lavender. I slowly get into the hot tub and I rest my bandaged arm on the side of the tub. The nurse turns off the water and sits on a stool.
"Luna I need to ask you some questions about the bunker but if you are not ready to talk then you don't have too"
"I'll talk even though this is such a weird place to have a conversation" i joke and she laughs
"I know but the doctor doesn't want you to be left alone"
"oh "
"Let's start with your arm," she says gesturing to my bandaged arm where I attempted to cut my barcode off. I think back to the first time i met lucas.
"When your first born you are given a barcode where they can easily ID you. I tried to cut it off" I explain looking down at the water.
"Why did you try to cut of off?"
"I was imprisoned because of this," I say lifting my leg up to reveal my ankle with a tattoo.
"When we first saved you we noticed that. Only a few of you had one which made us wonder how did someone know about our world when you were all trapped underground"
