Chapter 11: war

6 months later february 2172

I'm walking with Arist in a garden on the lower roof of the hospital. There's grass and trees and flowers planted so everyone can get to experience what's beyond the city. Arist tells me that many don't get to experience grass or trees since the exits of the city at barricaded to prevent anyone from leaving or entering. Up on the hill where all the rich homes are there's gardens like this one. We are lucky we were even allowed to leave and explore the waterfall. There's a small pond with fish swimming around. I walk closer to catch a glimpse of the fast swimming fish. The fish are different then I read about. There much larger and are colors of white and orange.

"What kind of fish are these?"

"There koi fish"

"There pretty". We sit down on the wooden bridge that goes over the pond and I look up at the sky. It's light blue and there's clouds covering the sun. Jack and Jeremy are training to become guards of the hospital and city. I now work alongside Dr. Eli as she takes care of war victims. The hospital has become one of the main hospitals where most soldiers are sent when injured. The hospital is located in northern Georgie near the border of South Carolina. When the aliens came to earth they came to America and took control. They left all the states the same names to make it easier to understand for everyone in the world. Around 100 years ago a dictator rose and took control of America. If you disagreed with him Your were killed. You broke a law you were killed or publicly tortured. Around 60 years ago the country was divided. The south was more free but still was apart of the aliens territory and controlled by a dictator till he was assassinated around 25 years ago and the south fought quickly by building a wall separating the north and south and became fully free. The north continued to be controlled by the dictators eldest son Allister who is more ruthless than his father. About 5 years ago the north wanted to regain the south and started to invade over the wall. The south wanted the north to be free and for the country to be one again so they fought back beginning the civil war. The middle class in the north liked being run by a dictator because it didn't affect them but the lower classes are the ones being tortured and killed in concentration camps. I sit closer to arist and he puts his arm around me. We watch the koi fish swim around. I rest my head on his shoulder. A light breeze

"Luna I have to tell you something" he says breaking the silence "I have to talk with my general about returning to the war"

"You said you were gonna become a doctor and stay away from the fighting" I say looking up at him

"I asked but becoming a doctor takes time and we don't have time. It's been five years since this war started and it's not close to ending. Five years for a war is a long time"
"I know but i don't want you to go" I say getting closer to him and setting my hand on his.

"I know but if I have to go I'm going"

"I don't want you to get hurt"

"Do you think I want to be shot at?" He says jokingly

"What if we run away and hide till the war is over"

"I'm not running luna. I'm fighting"

"Maybe you might not have to go"

"Sweetheart Listen to me. I'm getting sent to fight. I know I am and I find out for certain in three days and then I leave a week later" he says seriously. I pull away from him and I stand up.

"I gotta go" I say on the verge of crying. Arist stands up with me and tries to hug me but I back away.

"I need to go to work"

"Liar"

"Yes I'm lying because I don't want you to leave and die. I should have known you were going back to fight and would probably die like everyone else in my life"
