It's been so long!
It's been exactly forty-three minutes since the call with Gin was disconnected. What if it was an ambush? Who would ambush inside a hospital? What if she was taken? Her cell phone tracking location hasn't come back to the map since it disappeared earlier.
Honestly, I'm terrified. If Gin runs into trouble that she can't handle, how in the world am I supposed to save her? Bowden is sitting on the couch with Dylan, who woke up while I was yelling earlier. They're both extremely on edge but I can tell they're holding back. Probably because I'm losing it, pacing and mumbling nonstop.
I try to console myself with the thought that Gin has dealt with a lot of trouble, without needing help, but this just doesn't feel right. We've never been out of communication before. Bowden offered to go, but if Gin isn't actually in danger, having Bowden materialize at the hospital could make things worse. We have plans in place for situations like this and unfortunately, most of them involve me waiting a specific amount time before contacting our parents. I don't know if I can make it that long though.
I keep checking my phone and calling Gin's cell every two minutes, but each time it goes straight to voicemail. When my phone does ring, I practically drop it. Bowden and Dylan both stand up when they hear it go off. The number isn't one that I recognize, but who else would it be besides Gin, I quickly swipe to accept the call.
"Gin!?"
Silence meets me. I check my phone and the call connected.
"Hello?" I ask urgently.
H-hello?
My shoulders slump when I don't hear Gin's voice, but a man's voice instead.
"Hello?" I try again.
Uh, yes, hi. Can you.... help me?
"Help you?" I ask, confused.
The girl here, she told me to call you and only you and I'm not really—I mean I can help... her, but I need... some help.
He had my full attention when he said girl.
"Where is the girl right now?" I ask urgently.
She's here, she's unconscious, but otherwise appears... fine. I can take care of her, but I can't... the others...
I'm not sure what he's going on about, I'm still trying to figure out about Gin. If she's fine, why is she unconscious? She's never fainted in her life. I need to get to her, but I need some details first.
"Where are you right now?"
At the hospital, in the morgue.
Morgue?
"Is there anyone else there?" I am already gathering my bag and pulling my shoes on. Bowden and Dylan are watching me anxiously, but I just shake my head no. I catch Bowden's eyes and gesture to Dylan. I need to get to Gin and I need the demon to stay and keep watch over the boy, until we access whether the halfling is the target. The demon looks worried, but nods.
I realize I'm still waiting for an answer.
"Hello? Is there anyone else there with you?"
Not...not anymore.
Oh.
I'm racing out of the apartment, heading out to try and get a cab.
