Longest.
Week.
Of my life.
Dylan fell asleep a while ago on his pallet in my room, with Peter and Carter likewise asleep in the guest room. Alex and Gin are both gone, out separately. I currently don't know where Bowden is, a rarity for this week actually, since his return. In the quiet of the night, I keep my constant tracking over a range of what feels like half the city. Gin, Alex and about half of the current whereabouts of the demons that work for DemGen, those that we could find anyway.
The fallout of the human's death was hard on everyone, hitting Gin the most. Especially when we had to recreate the crime scene. It's not like we could explain a woman appearing out of nowhere and dying in the morgue. We had to contact Officer Cordova, who ended up 'finding' the body Bowden had to replace on the derelict rooftop.
She was a homeless woman, someone who's disappearance would have gone almost unnoticed. We found out from some other local vagrants that she usually stayed under an overpass nearby at night. The was a small collection of belongings, except none of which connected the woman to DemGen.
The rooftop was where we found our first clue, an empty energy sphere, the same style as the one we currently possess. Alex found our second clue, a strange substance in the woman's blood. Office Cordova made sure that the body was brought to Alex's hospital, where he ran a full autopsy.
As far as I know, he put the death down as sudden cardiac arrest, but we're sure it was whatever the demons injected into the woman. It took several days for the results, since Alex had to go through the proper channels. When he got the results back from the lab, we compared it to the information Peter brought.
While similar to the compounds that appear in the serum that wreaks havoc with a supernatural's abilities, Alex says that its slightly different. While the energy disruptant wouldn't cause any damage to a human, because they lack an energy, this one seems to interact at a microscopic level, opening up the cells.
We didn't want to believe it, but with only the discarded energy sphere, we don't have a lot of possibilities. The demons were trying to imbue a human with supernatural energy; the only result was the woman's death. What's keeping me up at night is wondering, how many other humans have they tried?
Thank god for Alex's genius, and his medical training, since he has actually been able to make sense of the serums. Peter isn't that well trained in our alternate world, knowing more about abilities than the magic behind them, so I've been trying to fill in the magical gaps for the doctor.
Gin has been gone every night. I would say tracking and patrolling, but it's more like stalking and hunting. She crashes when she comes home, waking up after a few hours to check in with me. I've been tracking down as many of the DemGen demons as possible, which doesn't feel like much. However, Gin quickly found the two from the other night, they were the first to be taken care of. Since then, she's gotten rid of a six more, starting to make a dent in the corporation's 'recruiting' manpower, from what we can gather.
At least this has straightened things out between my sister and her soulmate. Its not like Alex could still be angry with her in the face of how upset she is. They still probably need to have a good talk, but they're being more understanding of each other lately.
Dylan has been helping me. The halfling seems to have been watching me closely the past few weeks, and he's able to digitally track demons we've found and he also fills in on keeping an eye on Alex, and Gin's location, when I need to sleep. Peter and Carter have been helping with what they can, but Peter is still weak from his captivity, while Carter's been getting a crash course in the supernatural.
