Preparedness.

What do you usually bring to the first day of school? I copied my requirements when I enrolled the last time I went to the school. My dad bought me the complete set of books to be used by a high school student for the first year. I checked them. I smelled their newness. (Didn't you smell?) At night, I couldn't sleep well. What was I excited for? I know that the subjects were going to be very easy and understandable at first, but I know as the topics progress, everything crumbles.

Early morning.

It was my first day of school as a high school student in the same campus where I had my elementary years. Well, I thought of myself as a grown-up person at that time, so I prepared for it. What did I prepare? Of course, the complete set of books...eleven of them. Reading, Wika, Language, Civics, Math, Science, Pagbasa, MAPE (Music, Arts, and Physical Education), HELE (Home Economics and Livelihood Education), Computer, and, wow, Values Education. And you know what? My father even bought the magazines that I wasn't sure if they could be used or not. Do you remember Salaguinto and Alitaptap magazines? I have them. Eleven notebooks? Checked. Pens? Checked. Ten pesos for food during the breaktime? Checked. I was ready.

The bell rang. What to do? I excitedly ran to the second floor and checked my name on the papers posted on the wall. There were three sections at that time. Two in the morning, Section Love and Honesty, and one in the afternoon, Section Faith. "Section Honesty? Not here." That would only mean that I belong to Section Love.

Entry.

I slowly walked to the room, half nervous, half excited. I reached the door and a little disappointed because some faces were my classmates before. I chose my seat and the teacher looked at me. "Why aren't you wearing your uniform?" Well, my father who graduated from that school told me that uniforms weren't worn on the first day of school because teachers were just going to give the requirements. Guess everything changed. I just smiled at the teacher anyway.

I looked around to see my classmates. I was surprised!
