I wish that I could wake up with amnesia.

••

1 month later...

"What happened to you? Why did you do this, Jace? Why did you have to drink on your birthday? And get drunk? Why didn't you tell me you were driving? I didn't drink that much, I could have dropped you off. Do you remember the day you left for college? You promised me you'd wake me up so I could drop you off at the airport and say goodbye. But you left without saying anything. I cried a lot, reading that letter. I still have it actually. I have to go to Italy. I need to follow my dreams, like you did. And, just like you, if you asked me to stay, I would. And that's  not fair for me, we both know that. Goodbye, Jace Herondale."

Those words kept echoing in Jace's head since he first heard them. But, somehow, he couldn't recognize the sweet voice behind those words. Had he only imagined it? That was the last time he'd heard that voice.

He didn't imagine it, even if he thought he did. In fact, the owner of that voice that was trapped inside Jace's head, like his head was a prison and a person was there repeating the same thing over and over and over again. He could see something but it wasn't a face. He couldn't recognize what he saw. Maybe a silhouette? Yeah, a silhouette of a girl with long wavy hair.

Actually, that girl is packing to go to Italy. In less than 8 hours she would be on a plane, not that the golden haired in the come knows that. Why would he know? The red haired never visited him again after that day. Not that the boy noticed. He hadn't really been listening to what the people said when they visited him. Not that he didn't want to but, like it was said before. his mind was a prison with a broken record. He wanted to scream and get out of that prison that was his own mind, it was like a nightmare.

"Don't go!" He wanted to scream but it came out as a whisper once he opened his eyes. He tried to move but couldn't.

"Jace! You're awake!" Izzy said and left the room to call some doctors. The boy hadn't even notice her presence there until she spoke. A few minutes after, a lot of doctors came in the room.

Izzy and Thomas were waiting for the doctors to finish the tests and Thomas was calling Clary, she'd be glad to hear that Jace was finally awake.

"Clary, get your ass over here right now!" Thomas, or Tommy as she called him to piss him off, said when she answered the phone.

"Tommy, I can't! I need to pack my things." Clary told her best friend.

"Jace is awake and we're waiting here for you so hurry up and I'm hanging up before you can say no!" Thomas said really fast and hung up the phone before the red haired could say anything.

The girl sighed and got into her car to see Jace one last time. She rushed through the Manhattan streets to get to her... friend? Ex friend? Ex best friend? She didn't know. He wasn't an ex lover, but he wasn't only an ex best friend. An ex almost, perhaps, as she referred to him the last time she talked about him before college. She never talked about him ever since. Well, except for recently when she met him again, after all there years.

After what seemed like hours, but were only 15 minutes, Clary got into the hospital. Thomas was waiting for her near the coffee machine while Izzy was with Jace in his room.

"How is he?" The girl asked when she saw the blue eyed boy.

"He's good. The doctors said he may not remember a few things, probably small things but he seems fine to me." Thomas says and they start walking to Jace's room. "They also said a lot of other things that I didn't really listen so let's hope they weren't important. Or at least that Izzy heard them, which I highly doubt." He adds and Clary chuckles.

Clary gets shivers only by looking at those white hospital walls. It's all so lifeless there. It gives Clary bad memories, the ones of the accident with her parents. Even though it happened ten years, Clary remembered it like it happened yesterday. She still had nightmares about it but not a lot of people know that.

She snapped out of her thoughts when Thomas opened the door to Jace's room. They walked in and saw Jace look alive.

"Sup Jace." Thomas said as he walked in.

Clary walked slowly behind Thomas.

"Hey." Clary says.

"Hey, uh- I'm sorry, but do I know you?" Jace asks staring at Clary with a confused look.

"What? You don't remember me?" Clary asks. Thomas and Izzy had left the room a long time ago but neither Jace nor Clary had noticed.

Izzy was getting coffee and Thomas was trying to call Alec - who wasn't answering his phone - but neither of them knew what was going on inside the room. They both thought that Clary and Jace would be happily talking.

"What are you doing here?" Thomas asked annoyed when he saw a dark haired girl he didn't like. Well, neither of Jace's friends liked her, they only tried to be nice to her for Jace.

"I'm here to see my fiancé!" She says and runs into his room. Thomas went after her but it was pointless, she was already in the room when he tried to grab her arm.

"Jace!" Aline and hugged him. Thomas looked at Clary and mouthed an "I'm sorry."

"I'm sorry about her, Jace." Thomas said.

"Why? Aline is my fiancé." Jace says and both Thomas and Clary look at him shocked.

"So that means you don't remember the fight you two had before you got into coma and before you saw Clary again? The one where you found out that everything I told you about Aline was true?" Thomas says and Jace nods his head, trying to figure out what the hell Thomas was talking about. "You didn't believe me then, why would you believe me now?" He says and leaves the room with Clary, slamming the door behind him. He got a few looks from the nurses but he didn't care. Now the plan was really ruined.
