I stood there for a moment, his name bouncing around in my head. Utatane Piko, huh? Interesting... I thought, considering it. I realized how far behind I was, and hurried to catch up to the caboose of the herd of kids. I scanned the crowd, anxious to find Piko. I finally found him, his white hair standing out amongst the other heads of hair. I started to push my way through the crowd, muttering "sorry" and "excuse me" to every other person.

I finally caught up to him as the last of the crowd poured into the downstairs room. I was about to tap on his shoulder, when I hesitated. My thoughts caught up to me, and I realized what I was doing. I withdrew my hand, brushing his shoulder as I did so. I cringed, but recomposed myself before he saw my reaction.

"I... Um..." I silently cursed myself, my eyes shifting everywhere but to his. I finally sucked in a breath, and looked Piko in the eye.

"My name is (fn/ln)." I breathed, exhaling at the same time. I whipped my head down to my shoes, waiting for a response. I eventually looked up, only to see Piko's head cocked to the side, a quizzical look fixed on his face. He leaned in a little closer, so we were barely five inches apart. I inhaled sharply at the lack of space. I looked up and saw his eyes. I suddenly felt like I was about to drown in them, so rich and intense. We stood there for a while, me lost in Piko's eyes, him waiting for clarification.

"My name," I choked out, pulling away a little, " is (fn/ln)."

He smiled and nodded. He must have realized how uncomfortable I was, I thought, but we still stood there, each regarding the other quietly. I found myself gazing into his eyes, and taking in the features of his face, how pale his skin is, his delicate features. I saw him take a step forward, bringing us back to our original distance, maybe even closer. I felt myself drowning in his eyes again, my heart racing as the space gradually closed. But there was also something else, a feeling I couldn't recognize.

Whistling. Some part of me pointed out. All at once, reality came clawing at me, like a starved beast about to devour its prey. Without looking, I could feel stares burning into me, and I could hear a few people cat calling, and even a snide comment, "Ew! They're going to kiss!" A sudden wave of embarrassment and anger surged over me, and I reached out, and I pushed Piko Utatane. I didn't look to see if he was alright; I turned and sprinted down the hallway. There was only one thing on my mind. Disappear.
