I sat on the sofa in the Main Hall as I usually do, with my knees tucked under my chin, my thighs flush against my torso. I sighed as I looked up, without moving my head. It had already been ten minutes after classes, and I had a feeling that Piko had forgotten. I sighed again, my gaze falling to the floor as I battled with my disappointment. What was I expecting? I asked myself.
I heard shoes clicking on the tile floor, and anxiously raised my head and searched for the source. My head fell as a teacher walked by me.
"Alright, he's not coming." I muttered to myself.
"What was that?" Piko's silky voice drifted through the room. My face reddened as I looked at him, ashamed that I had lost faith in him so easily. He had a sly grin on his face, and he strolled over to me casually.
"You're late." I sputtered. He simply shrugged and continued to cross the room. "Follow me." I said once he was reasonably close. I led him to my room, and opened the door, inviting him in.
Once we were both in the room, I realized how unprepared I was. How was I supposed to explain something to him when he didn't even remember it. Suddenly, a thought sent a wave of cold fear tumbling over me. What if he doesn't know that he's a computer program? What do I do then? I sat down on my bed, swallowing slightly as I invited him to sit next to me. I caught myself staring into his eyes again, and silently scolded myself.
"Ah... So- er, Piko," I paused, trying to formulate my thoughts, "Did you know that I recently got out of the infirmary?"
He nodded slowly, trying to guess where this conversation was going. "Well, do you know why I was there?" He gave me a blank expression, shaking his head.
I trailed iff into an explanation of how, a few months ago, he had sat with me at lunch, and how we had grown closer. I hesitated as his face grew more and more perplexed. I told him about the roof incident, and how I had remembered the USB. I slowly pulled it out of my pocket, and showed it to him.
His hungry eyes devoured it, and his hand shot out to grab it, but I closed a fist around it. So he does know. He glared at me, and I cringed.
"Wait," I stated, Piko still fuming, "You have to promise me something first. You have to upload this to your memory. Please. I- I really..." I choked up a little, and his expression softened.
"Listen, uh... uh, what was your name again? I'm so sorry..." Piko paused, and the tears started to flow. He doesn't even remember my name.
"_____" I stated, clearing my throat and looking away.
"Hey I'm sorry I-" Piko paused, a breath of frustration heaving out of his chest, "A-Alright. I'll upload it, if it really means that much to you."
Our eyes met, and butterflies flooded my stomach. I lunged at him, wrapping my arms around his neck. "Thank you so much." I breathed. Piko sat stiffly on the bed, unsure of how to react. After a few moments, I realized how awkward it must be for him, and quickly pulled back, muttering a small "Sorry..."
I motioned over to my computer, standing and turning it on.
