"An event? What do you mean?" I looked at Piko incredulously. The HC had never had an event in all the time that I had been there. It seemed completely out if character for the center to have an event without a good reason.

Piko shrugged, "I don't know. I've just seen fliers posted here and there. It's supposed to be next week."

"Do you know if it's required? What are we going to do?"

"It's supposed to be some skill assessment thing, but it isn't required. They said they were going to host a party at the end; I guess that's their incentive."

I frowned. I was pretty skeptical about the whole event, but Piko had a glimmer in his eyes that said he wouldn't pass up this opportunity for the world. "I suppose you're going, then."

"Is that even a question? Of course I'm going! Who wouldn't want to go to a party? Besides, when's the next time we'll be able to go to one?" He said the last sentence with a hint of bitter anguish, but his expression never changed. I nodded slightly. He has a point, I said to myself, but I won't let my guard down. The HC may have seemed to be focused on the welfare and happiness of its residents from an outside perspective, but, in reality, it was the complete opposite.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I glanced over at my clock, checking the time for the fifth time in the past five minutes. I sighed, exasperated. My closet stood open, my clothes seeming to loom over me, the rest strewn chaotically across the floor. Why is it so hard to pick clothes? I couldn't understand what had come over me; I had never had problems choosing clothes before. In fact, I didn't really care about what I was wearing before, but now... I fell backwards onto my bead, unable to make up my mind. I heard a soft knock on my door, and called out for them to enter. When Thadelia entered, I bolted upright.

"What's wrong?" Her voice was laced with concern.

"I, um..." My face flushed as I realized how silly I was acting, "Well I'm going to go to the event tonight and..."

"You can't decide what to wear?" Thadelia burst out laughing, "It's alright; I think I can help with that."

After a few moments, Thadelia had picked out a 3/4-sleeved shirt and a floral skirt. The shirt was fairly light and airy, and had pale, (f/c) stripes on it. The skirt wasn't very flashy; it was gray and dotted with dark flowers. There was a little bit of black lace around the bottom.

I looked at the outfit incredulously, thinking that it was too girly and flashy for me.

Thadelia smacked me lightly, "I know what you're thinking; there's no way you're going in jeans."

"Yea, I know," I sighed, but I knew she was right. This was a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and there was no way I could attend in street clothes.

"Oh! I almost forgot; I don't have any shoes. All I have are two pairs of tennis shoes."

"Hmmm... If size (S/S) will fit you, then you can borrow a pair of mine..." I nodded gratefully, and she continued, "Alright then. I'll go grab those while you change."

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I stood in front of the only mirror in my room, examining my outfit. I did a small twirl for Thadelia, who nodded approvingly. She had come back with a simple pair of black flats. I sighed heavily, now remembering the uneasiness I had felt earlier about the strange party.

~*~*~ At the party ~*~*~

I quickly located Piko in the crowded room, his white hair standing out, as usual. I made my way over to him, and grabbed his hand, turning him around to get his attention. As soon as he saw me, his mouth gaped. I laughed as he tried to make a recovery but failed miserably.

"Someone cleaned up nicely." I said, fixing his slightly crooked bow tie. His black suit offset his light complexion wonderfully, his light blue bow tie and shoes adding a pop of color.

"Me? Did you even look in the mirror before you left the room? You look..." His mouth gaped yet again, as he struggled to come up with the right word.

"Stop," I giggled, lightly pushing him.

"I'm dead serious," he smiled, grabbing my other hand, "You look absolutely stunning."

We stood there, in the middle of the crowd for a while, smiling like fools without a care in the world. I'm so lucky.

"Want to get something to eat before the dance starts? I'm famished." Piko asked.

We walked over to the buffet, piling a plate full of food to split, and then picking a table off to the side to sit at.

We talked for what seemed like hours, enjoying ourselves, the food, and the change of pace.

"Attention, please, students. The first dance is about to start! Please gather around the dance floor if you are not already here." A teacher's voice sounded over the mic.

"Shall we?" Piko asked, standing and offering his hand.

"We shall." I responded with a smile, as I took his hand and followed him to the dance floor.

The music began to play, slow and steady, and we swayed in time to the beat. Each following song grew faster and more exhilarating. We flew around the floor, free from reality. I stared into Piko's beautiful eyes, smiling wider than I had ever thought possible. The world around me was a blur, nothing mattering aside from me and him.

The music slowed down again, and we did too, giggling like small children sharing a secret.

"That was fun." I said, resting my head on his shoulder as we swayed.

"Yeah."

We continued to dance, enjoying the moment, until the teachers announced the end of the event. We walked back in a calm, comfortable silence, holding hands. When we got to my room, I smiled and gave Piko a quick kiss goodnight before stepping into my room.

Once inside, I spun around and laughed, falling onto my bed and sighing. What a night!

That night, I fell asleep with a smile on my lips and Piko on my mind.

~*~*~*~*~*~

I am dead this update has taken eons to come out! I'm sososo sorry ಥ_ಥ

I would say better late than never but it's been far too long for that. Aaaanyways once this is out the story will be finished. I honestly had forgotten how sad it was at the beginning, so I feel like this update makes up for that, in a way. I definitely wanted to have a really worry-free, upbeat ending, so party time !!!

So once this is out, my hiatus will be over, although it might be a few weeks before anything new comes out, since I don't know what to write. I will be on and active, though.
