**Warning • This chapter is memories from Shaniya's life.**

"Happy birthday Shay, blow out your candles." It was my 5th birthday, back to the times my parents were happy. Life was carefree for me. I got what I wanted, and I was happy. My parents were happy. We were the perfect family. "Happy birthday little sissy" Phoenix gave me a hug.

"Shay, cmon were gonna be late!" Phoenix hollered up the stairs for me. Today was the first day of my freshman year. I knew it wasn't gonna be good, but it'd be worth it I guess. We arrived at school, and I was dreading it already. "Oh yeah, happy birthday Phoenix." I kissed his cheek before getting out of the car.

I got out of the car and began walking toward the office building with my keys in one hand and my coffee in the other. As I turned the corner I bumped into a tall, curly haired boy, spilling my coffee all over the both of us. "Oh my god. I'm sorry.." I wasn't sure how to clean up the mess exactly. "It's not a big deal.." He chuckled a cute little laugh. "I like your Cobain Shirt" He looked down at his shirt. "Uh thanks." He smiled. "Well, I'll see you around Cobain." I smiled and walked away.

"Told you I'd see you around Cobain." I smiled as I sat next to him. "So, I never got your name." "Irwin, Ashton Irwin." I chuckled. "Well, its nice to meet you Irwin." "You too-" he paused waiting for my name. "Shaniya," "Shaniya." He flashed a cheesy, dimpled smile. "I like your smile. Its beautiful." I seen his cheeks flush red. "Well, I'll see you around. Again, Cobain." I winked at him as I walked away. "Sure you will, Coffee."

"GOOOOOODDD MORNINGGGG SHANIYA ROSE DAVIS!!" I woke up to a happy, screaming Ashton. "Happy birthday Coffee." He kissed my forehead. "Thank you Cobain." "You're Mum made breakfast." I got up and walked to the bathroom changing my clothes. "Cmon." I grabbed his hand and walked down the stairs. "Morning Mum," I kissed her cheek. "Morning Honey, happy birthday." My dad walked through the door with a small box wrapped up. "Mornin' love, happy birthday." He handed me the box and kissed my temple. "Go ahead, open it." As I unwrapped the box, a shinny silver box displayed a matching set of rose earnings, and a necklace. "I figured you'd want nice jewelry for prom. And you're my little Shaniya Rose." I felt tears swell up in my eyes, and soon the fell down my cheeks. I got up and kissed my dad's forehead. "Thank you Dad. I love them, and you." I chuckled a little bit.

"It doesn't Matter Alec. We're done and it'll never happen again. I'm with Ashton, and I'm happy with him, not you." I walked away from Alec and sat next to Ashton. "Hey Cobain." I smiled and kissed him. "Will you ever stop calling me Cobain?" I thought about it for a second. "Probably not." We both laughed in unison.

"I am your mother, and I said no! If you don't want to listen to my rules," she pointed to the door and my heart sank to my stomach. "Then get the hell out." Her jaw was clenched together. A million and one things were running through my mind as I tried to settle in the fact that my mum basically just kicked me out. "Fine, I'll leave." I walked away and went up stairs.

"Shay! Watch out!" As I looked back up to the road, a truck was coming at us head first. I tried swerving but it only made matters worse. The truck ran us off the road and we tumbled down the side of the mountain. After the car flipped several times, I heard Jaylynn crying. I tried to get out of the car, but I was stuck. "Jay, help me" It came out as a faint whisper. I heard Jay get out of the car and that was the last thing I remembered.

I could here people running me down the halls of what I assumed to be the hospital. I wanted to wake up, but I couldn't. I don't know whats going on, I just know I couldn't wake up. I was mentally freaking out. I felt like I was dead. I felt someone lay down next to me, intertwining our hands together. I knew that touch from anywhere. Ashton. It was Cobain laying next to me.

"She's in a coma." I could hear them, and I wanted them to know I was still alive. I needed Ashton to know I was still there. I could hear muffled voices, but one clear thing I could hear is, "if she doesn't wake up in 3 to 5 days, we'll have to cut off her life support."
