Today, Carlie turned exactly three months old. She was developing like a normal baby though she could do many things other infants couldn’t do, of course apart from her special gift. Tomorrow was her Christening, so we spent most of the day at home to prepare.
Alice, Rose, Bella and Renesmee went shopping in London, much to the dismay of Bella. The guys went out to hunt; as Carlisle has already hunted yesterday he stayed home with us. It was noon and Carlie’s naptime. She didn’t want to, but she really needed the rest for tomorrow. So I dressed her in a nightgown and lay her into her cradle and sang to her until she slept. It was an old song my grandmother always sang to me when I was a young child. It calmed Carlie down just as much as it has done to me. She held one of my fingers in her tiny fist and contently sucked on a pacifier. “Sleep well, sweetie,” I whispered and kissed her forehead, before I carefully removed her tiny hand and walked outside.
Carlisle embraced me at once. “She’s sleeping,” I sighed and hugged him closer. “That’s good. She hasn’t slept through the night, so she must be tired.” I nodded.
“The others are gone,” I told him with a smile. “I know, they said they will return in the afternoon,” he told me matter-of-factly. I used the full force of my eyes on him when I looked up. I bit on my lip and moved my hands up his chest. “We’re alone,” I told him once more and this time he understood exactly what I meant.
He smirked at me and then suddenly swooped me up into his arms and carried me into our bedroom. He softly laid me on the bed and got rid of his pullover. I smiled at him and did the same to my own. He hovered over me and greedily kissed first my lips, then my neck, my collarbone and went on to my stomach. A moan escaped my lips. He smiled at me and returned to them. We hurriedly got rid of the trousers and we were only in our underwear, which I’ve lost only seconds later. He massaged me and planted kisses on my body that felt like the touch of feathers.
I moaned in anticipation. He smirked at me once again. I gave him a seductive look and motioned him to me with my finger. He hovered over me again. “Do you really want to, my love?” he asked me. “Yes, I want you. Now!” I told him and grabbed his neck. He kissed me once before we were one. It felt wonderful. Suddenly I started to cry and sob uncontrollably. He saw me crying and stopped at once and got away from me. “Esme, what is it?” he asked anxiously. “Did I hurt you? What can I do? Should I leave?” the idea alone of his suggestion caused him and me pain.
“No, of course not, come here,” I said between sobs and sat up. He sat before me on the bed and waited for my answer. Instead of telling him what I felt I showed him. I began kissing him and stroked his face and chest before I moved lower. There he stopped me:”Esme…” he said hurt. “I’m not sad or hurt. I’m happy to have you here. That you are mine and these tears are tears of happiness,” I told him and it was the truth.
He smiled at me triumphantly. “I love you,” he whispered. “As I love you,” I answered and kissed him.
We lay in bed for two hours, just enjoying each other’s company, when we heard Carlie’s cries. Carlisle kissed me once more, before he got up, got dressed and hurried over to the nursery. I did the same, but without vampire speed I needed longer to get ready.
When I walked in, Carlisle already had her cradled in his arms and fed her. “She was just hungry,” he told me. And it was true: her eyelids drooped again and as soon as she was fed she returned to sleeping.
The one hour Carlie slept through, Carlisle and I spent preparing everything for tomorrow. We were in our bedroom, going through our outfits for tomorrow. As I looked at the dresses, I thought about what had happened in that short time we were graced with Carlie’s presence.
