The days flew by once again. Carlisle had arranged a candle light dinner in a park the next day. It was so wonderful and sweet! The days following we visited the Louvre and ate in some extraordinary restaurants. It was really great! Soon Thursday came and it was time for my appointment. Carlisle drove us to the clinic. It was one of the best in Europe and Carlisle got an appointment right away, I guess the name still counts today. We got inside and were greeted warmly and were led into the examining room. “Good morning Dr. and Mrs. Cullen,” Dr. Andrepont welcomed us. “How far are you?” “I’m in the 8th week now.” He ran some tests just like Robert and made an ultrasound. “Everything is fine with you and the baby. Even your vitamin balance is perfectly fine, which is rare in the early stages of pregnancy. So you don’t have to worry about anything.” We thanked him and he handed us the second ultrasound picture of our baby.
It was weird, but the examinations already became a routine to me, although it was only my second. In addition I could sense that Carlisle relaxed noticeably after the results. He smiled at me and I could feel that the tension regarding my well-being seems to disintegrate. We walked outside and were greeted by a cheerful Alice accompanied with Bella, Rosalie and Renesmee. I hugged them and took Renesmee into my arms. “Is the baby fine?” She asked. “Yes, we’re both healthy,” I answered her. She smiled her dazzling smile and snuggled into my shoulder. Normally it wouldn’t have bothered me, but I couldn’t carry Renesmee around like I was used to and right now she was starting to get a bit too heavy. I handed her to Bella; I felt self-conscious that I couldn’t carry her so much; she was quite cranky that she couldn’t be in my arms, but Bella tried to explain it to her.
“Ready for our shopping trip?” Alice asked. “Yes,” I answered cheerfully. “Okay, then let’s go. The boys wanted to take their own tour of the city, so we have the entire day all alone with us girls.” I peeked at Carlisle and he looked a bit nervous. I squeezed his hand to calm him. “Alice, I would feel much better, if I could accompany you as well. I don’t want to leave Esme alone,” he asked timidly but determined. “It’s not like she would be on her own. Three and a half vampires will take care of her, but if you want to, then okay. But no arguing about shopping.” Carlisle nodded and relaxed on my side. We walked to the cars, which were parked around the corner. They all walked so fast comparing it to my pace. They didn’t seem to notice that, I had no problem with it before, but now it seemed like I couldn’t breathe right. I stopped and panted. “Carlisle?” I called breathlessly. “What is it?” he asked worriedly. “I can’t breathe. Your pace was too fast and I couldn’t follow you. Now it seems like I cannot breathe right.” Carlisle took me into his arms and carried me to the others, who waited a few meters further. “I actually refreshed my gynecological knowledge in the past months and in the first trimester it could happen that you cannot breathe right or that you have to pant when running because your oxygen level is too low because of the baby. You now have to relax more,” Carlisle explained. I sighed in relief, happy that nothing bad happened. “Then we will take a mild version of a shopping trip today,” Rosalie said smiling. Everyone else nodded and we went to the cars.
We went through the city center to find some nice boutiques. Most of the time we lost Alice somewhere, since she couldn’t keep herself from going faster than I could; Carlisle and Bella with Renesmee stayed with me, whereas Rosalie begrudgingly followed Alice. I laughed at this sight: Rosalie was constantly dragged by Alice into several shops, she looked really pissed, but as soon as Alice looked at her, her expression changed back to her lovely smile. We laughed, earning an angry look from Rosalie and a questioning one from Alice. Bella winked at Alice and she already was inside the next shop. “Alice can really be scaring when she wants something, even Rosalie tries everything to not anger her,” I said. Bella laughed and agreed.
