The next day, a Friday, Carlisle and I went to school to arrange everything. We decided to have the christening on the 4th of November, so the kids needed one week out of school. Carlie was staying at home, because we thought that there was no need to take her with us into the cold when Rose and Emmett could also look after her. So she was at home and we were just arriving at Forks High School. “Let’s get over with it,” Carlisle joked and took my hand. We walked to the secretariat meeting no students, as they were all in class right now. Only Edward and Bella knew that we were here, but they just had Geography.
“Good morning,” I greeted the secretary, when we entered the room. “Good morning,” she answered boringly, but when she looked up she smiled. “Oh, Dr. and Mrs. Cullen, what can I help you with?” she asked friendly. Carlisle smiled at her. “We wanted to talk to Mrs. Fannigan regarding our kids Bella and Edward,” he said. “Okay, let me just see whether she is there,” she told us and knocked on the principal’s door. She answered and led us in. “So, what can I do for you?” she asked. “We wanted to get a week of vacation for Bella and Edward next month around the 4th,” I told her smiling. “May I know the reason?” she asked still friendly. “We wanted to celebrate our youngest daughter’s christening and therefore we would need to take the children out of school as we planned to celebrate it in Great Britain,” Carlisle explained to her. “Well, actually nothing would be against it. Both of your kids have excellent grades and it wouldn’t be too long. So it’s fine by me, but they have to catch up on the missed learning,” she told us smiling. “Of course, they will. Thank you,” I told her, smiling back at her. “Have a nice celebration,” she said and we thanked her once again and left the school.
We drove back home, happy that everything is working out as we want so for, and walked inside hand in hand. I immediately walked into the living room to Rose and Emmett. Rose currently held Carlie, already dressed, and was holding her on her knees to play with her. I walked to her and snatched her away into my own arms.
“Good morning, my little sunshine, I’ve missed you,” I cooed and kissed her several times. She was patting my neck telling me that she missed me, too. I smiled down at her. Carlisle walked into the room and smiled at us. “She missed you. We couldn’t convince her to play with anything, not even Jasper,” Rose told us. I nuzzled her tiny face and she laughed in response. Recently, Carlisle and I found out that Carlie could also show not only love to others but also how she feels in general. So now we knew easier what she wanted and she seemed to already know how to handle her gift. She patted my neck again and let me feel her happiness. I shifted her over to one arm and walked to Carlisle’s side. “Esme! Do you have a moment?” Alice called from upstairs. “Yes, just a second,” I called back. I gave Carlie to Carlisle and put my coat off. Then I kissed my husband and walked upstairs.
I walked into my bedroom and found Alice in my closet. “I didn’t know that you still have dresses from the 30s and so on,” she told me as soon as she spotted me. She was in the deep corners of our closet and held up some dresses. I haven’t seen them in a while as well and they immediately reminded me of the events I’ve worn them. I smiled and touched some of them. They were mostly ball gowns, I’ve worn whenever the hospitals that Carlisle worked for had festivities. “These are amazing, why haven’t you said anything about them?” she asked me, mesmerized by a golden dress. “Well, I forgot about them.” “I have never seen them before.” “No, because I’ve worn them before you two joined us in 1950.”
“You know that this dress is called the Venus dress? It is one of the legendary dresses made by Christian Dior. Museums would give everything for it.” “I remember. It was a year before you came. Carlisle had one of his galas, or so he said. He then surprised me with a magical ceremony to renew our vows. Whenever I think about I have to smile and love him so much more,” I told her. “So you’ve worn this to your wedding?” “Yeah, it was especially for me. The designer saw me when we were looking for dresses and insisted to make me a dress himself. And it turned out to be this amazing dress,” I explained to her. “Wow, I didn’t know you had it in you. We should go shopping together more often,” she said astonished. I laughed,” we will.” We looked some more through my old dresses and Alice didn’t stop gushing and trying on some of these. She loved them.
Until she pulled one out of its place, that made me blush deeply. She held up a pink dress with white flowing sleeves and golden ribbons. “That rather looks like a night gown, though,” she half-asked herself and looked at me. She noticed my blushing. “That is a nightgown, the one I’ve worn in our wedding night,” I told her embarrassed. “Oh, I’m sorry, I haven’t recognized it at first,” she said and hurriedly put it back into its rightful place.
“Esme, dinner’s ready,” Carlisle called. Alice and I put the dresses away and we walked downstairs into the dining room. Everyone was sitting at the table and waited for me to arrive. Alice sat next to Jasper and Carlisle then sat down next to me with Carlie in his arms. Rose was walking in with a delicious smelling dinner. I tried it and it was absolutely perfect! “Wow, Rose, that’s delicious!” “Thank you. I thought I’d give it a try,” she smiled. Emmett muffled a round of laughter, which earned a glare from Rosalie. Edward and actually everyone else was laughing as well. “What’s so funny?” Carlisle asked as dumbfounded as I was. “I might have needed a few tries getting dinner ready, but no need to laugh, guys!” Rosalie explained and first glared at the others before she began to laugh as well.
