Chapter 5 "Moving On"

Oakley hugs my leg. I pick her up and give her a hug! I walk to the living room where Nick gives me a can of soup. I sit down on the couch and ask him how this experience has been for him, he tells me that he got separated from his family in the crowd when they tried to evacuated the city. So he ran to my house in search for us. When he got there he seen my dad sitting on the door step oblivious to what was going on. He said that he was looking for us. Hailey she sees the darkness in my eyes, but I act like nothing's wrong. I grab Oakley and we walk to the kitchen table. Hailey follows us and says don't worry we will get through this we are a team Sam, we will find more people and get stronger. I smile and tell here that she's right. She grabs a match off the table and lights a lantern. She says Nick you'll keep watch with me since it's your first night, anyways we are better off with two on watch. He tries to act confident. I give them a smile and then walk up stairs with Oakely and tuck her in to her and I sit on the floor right next to her bed and tell her the story of the pack wolves, who would howl at the moon every night because the knew that it was their ancestors watching over them, then she falls a sleep and i walk to my room and lay in my bed. I stare at the ceiling, picturing my memories as a kid in this house. I wake up realizing I slept all night, Hailey and Nick never woke me. I decide to fetch some water I through my sword over my shoulder, I check on Oakley she's fast asleep. So, I head down stairs and walk out the door. The sun shines in my face. I look at them, why y'all let me over sleep. They smile and Nick says trust me you needed it dude. No doubt I needed that I walk towards the well. I tell myself that life's not perfect and that this is just another battle. I press down on the lever water gushes out into the bucket. I walk back to the house, then I hand the bucket of water to Hailey. She brings it in side and her and nick go to bed. I sit on the swing and think about mom and dad, and finally realize how they loved us no matter what. I decide to take a walk on the plantation. I can feel mom and dad around us they are watching over us. They are the wind that blows through these two hundred year old Oak trees, I feel them in the breeze. I see my childhood memories, I smile when the day they brought Oakley home croses my mind. I was so excited to see my baby sister that day. And I think to my self, death is just gunna have to look somewhere else cause we are going fight this harsh new life.
