Chapter 6 "The Bloody Group"

We decide to move on the herds of zombies are getting closer, and closer looking for food. We pack up every thing in the car, me and Oakley walk through the house remembering the past and the memories we had here with mom and dad. She says look brother and points toward our family picture on the wall, Oakley was just a baby then. my hands grab the the picture frame and I stare at the faces trying not to forget every line and crease of their faces. We were all so happy and health back then not a care in the world. I throw the picture in my bag and we say our final good bye's to what was once our home. I grab Oakely's hand and we walk out the door not looking hack. I put the car in drive and we make our way down the long driveway. We pass through cities and see complete devastation every thing burnt to the ground and destroyed, shadows of buildings remain. Peoples possessions destroyed and abandoned. Nick says hey look up a head we spot this girl about our age, she's tall and has black hair and a little boy carrying a stuffed bear. Nick says stop the car. Hailey ask them if they have been bit are have had any contact with the zombies. The girl replies no, Hailey says hop in the back. They get in I put it in drive they look like they have been through hell I ask the girl what's your name she says Izzy Ray and this my little brother John Ray.  Well Izzy and John I'm Sam, that's Hailey, Nick and my sister Oakley and we're going to need another vehicle. We pull over at a Rv and camper place. Sam Hailey replies "this one is perfect." We put the supplies in the Rv and call a meeting to decide if we are going to let Izzy and John join t

us.  We all decide that we can't leave them alone and that we are better off with more people. Hailey, Izzy and the kids will ride in the RV while Nick and me lead the group in the car down the road. We zigzag through hundreds of cars then come up to a cleared path. We stop for the night and set up camp. Me and nick gather up fire wood and we all sit around the fire and we finally get to talk but decide not to ask Izzy what happened to her and John's family. We heat up our soup over the fire instead. Izzy and John devour their food. We figure they been on the road for a while. They are so skinny and fraile. I look over at Hailey and she looks at she has an expression of hope a beam of light in her eye's. We put out the fire and everyone goes to sleep except me and her. We decide to keep watch. We talk all night she says "See I told you we found more people and not one of us has died yet." I smile and say don't jinx us. I check on Oakley and find her with John's stuffed bear. She looks at me and says "John decided to share him with me, bub." I smile she must have told him about Teddy, how she loved Teddy. I tell her to go back to bed she smiles and says I love u bub. I smile back and say love you to now get some sleep we have a long day a head of us little sis. I turn to walk back to go meet Hailey and hear a gun shot she shouts zombies. We wake everyone up and start the RV. Nick runs too get his gun I grab my sword and we break for the car. I turn and see Oakely running for saying "bub wait" she must have followed me. A zombie runs for her she screams and I reach for my gun it's like an impulse my finger pulls the trigger five times the zombie hits the dirt. I scramble towards her shaking blood is gushing out of her neck. I scream Hailey it bit her. Nick clears out the Zombies I scream again for Hailey she comes running I hold.Oakley in my lap on the ground and tears are rolling down my face. I look at Hailey and mutter the words I was suppose to perfect her." Hailey stares at my eyes as if she can see the pain. She looks back down and feels her pulse and says she's gone Sam, what no she can't be gone Hailey she just can't. She gives me a hug she is the only warmth I feel she whispers I'm sorry Sam but we got to act fast. I turn my head and Hailey pulls the trigger. My ears ring, I'll never forget that gun shot. I lay next to her till dawn then look around at the cold lifelesseless bodies on the ground. I get up and grab a shovel the tears have dried I'm full of rage  I dig her a grave and we burry her. Nick looks at me as of he can see the darkness and emptiness that now I'mbodies me. I find a stone and carve the words Oakely Beck. I scream at God "why must we live in this world.".I look at Izzy she gives me a hug and says sorry Sam. I look at her and say is it really worth all this pain just to live. She says I don't know Sam but what I do know is that I will fight for every breath I take just like you should, your family would want you to fight. She walks back to the Rv and I think to myself, when will the pain end, I had just got over the pain and now I'm back at square one.
