Chapter 12 "The Chill"

I wake up, it's cold! I grab a long sleeve shirt and get dressed. I walk the cafeteria and find the others eating breakfast. I pull up a chair next to Hailey, she passes me a can of sliced apples. I look over to the next table and see Katt she is wearing a poncho. I scarf down my apple slices and me and her walk down the hall toward the exit. I open the door and see snow falling. Katt says dear God winter has arrived early. We get the others they are shocked. Izzy says Sam what are we gunna do, we arent prepared. I look at them and ask who wants to go on a run with me we need warm clothes. Kattlen smiles and says I'll go. We hop in the mustang and Hailey opens the gate, while the others stab any near by zombies. We drive out the gate, the zombies run for our car I step on the gas leaving them behind us. We pull up at a department store. We jump out the car I throw my sword around my shoulder. Katt grabs her pistol and machette. I kick on the doors. She points her gun to the door. They run to the windows and scratch from the other side. I pull my sword out. Katt throws the door open they stumble out ready to tear into our flesh, Katts gun goes off body's are falling to the ground I stab them and cut there heads off they fall on the snow covered cement. We make our way into the store, make sure it's clear and grab anything to keep us warm. I throw coats on my shoulder. Katt grabs sweatpants and jeans. We are walking out when we spot bed sheets. We throw everything in the trunk except two leather jackets we each put one on. We walk around the back of the store and find a gas tank for the generators. I grab our gas tanks and we siffle gas out till we fill all ten containers. We put them I'm the back seat an then get back on the road zombies are everywhere they must have heard the gun shots I step on the gas blood flys there body's roll under the car, one flys over the windshield. Katt says damn. I look at her and say we are going to make it threw the crowd. We tear through the crowd they chase the car hundreds of them behind us I had forgot how bad the world was outside of a fence. I look at Katt and tell her that I Lost everything and then you showed up and changed everything you brought me back. She smiles and says Sam y'all let us in the hospital giving us life I am the one thankful. A tear rolls down my face, me Katt had been friends since I was five, we grew up together. She says Sam I looked for You when stuff got bad but I bearly made it out the city and then when I got to the plantation no one was there but I new y'all had stayed there for a few nights. There were empty food cans on the coffee table. I look at her and say Katt I can't lead these people by myself I need you. She smiles and says are you sure Sam. I reply damn right I'm sure I trust you with my life. We drive up at the gate. Hailey and Nick open the gate we drive in and I open the car door snow pours down on us from the sky. I am overwhelm with the feeling of a new beginning I give Katt a hug and then the group runs to us and they smile at the sight of our return. I open the trunk and they throw warm clothes on. Izzy puts a jacket jacket on John smiling at me with a look of thanks.
