We lay in our beds, thoughts of Mom, Dad, and Oakley flash threw my head. I think to myself if only they could have hanged on in this world till we found the hospital. I can still see Oakley's innocent face, I can't get it out of my head. I slap my fore head but they don't go away. I get up and look out the window. It's pouring down rain, I grab my boots and walk down the hallway. The lights flash on an off the emergency generator is running low on gas. I grab a flashlight and walk outside as if I'm searching for something. The rain is cold but it feels as if it's washing away all the pain from this new life. I walk to the fence and see the dead walking, in search of food. They lunge for the fence, I stare at there blank eyes, what have these people become. Now life has become finding protection from the outside. The question is how long you have that protection. All of a sudden I catch a glimpse of a car's headlights, I put my hand over my forehead trying to see past the light. I scream for they others. Hailey runs outside. The car pulls up its night blue. We grab the gate and fling it open.
