Chapter 8

Sitting in the car, everyone could tell that the silence that fell is very awkward. Michael tries lightening the mood by introducing Amelia and I to Noah.

“Um, Noah, this is my girlfriend Amelia,” he says while pointing a finger at Amelia, “and this is her twin sister, Emily,” he finishes off while signaling at me. “And girls, this is my best friend since pre-school, Noah.”

Of course he's your best friend. The gods had to find a way for us to "keep in touch," I think to myself.

The surprise is evident in Noah's face. He hadn't expected Michael to say twin sister, but I couldn't blame him because we looked nothing alike. We were fraternal twins.

I have piercing blue eyes and blonde hair that reaches my shoulders. My hair had very dark tips.

Amelia has brown-green eyes which you could get lost in and could make you do things you wouldn't dream of doing. She has slightly longer hair and her roots and tips have taken a light shade of brown.

“Emily and I have met. She's very,” pause, “interesting.” Noah says and I resist the urge to roll my eyes and scoff.

“Now that the pleasantries have been put aside, let's get our grub on.” Michael says, a bit too enthusiastically. This time I don't hold back the eye roll. I mean, who says grub anymore. Then I think to myself, Amelia.

I snicker at my thought and I could feel the eyes on me.

“Yeah, let's,” I say to try and cover up for the giggle.

Sitting in the same car as Noah is mind-numbingly painful.

He sneaks looks at me through the rear-view mirror, and judging by the way he's looking at me, he is as uncomfortable as I am.

As if Amelia could feel the tension between the two of us, she reaches for my hand and gives it a light squeeze as a sign of reassurance.

I would have to tell her about my conversation with Noah later tonight.

We arrive at the this cute little place 10 minutes into town. The Italian themed restaurant has a sign in red, green and white which said Antonio's. There are five tables with four chairs each outside with umbrellas the same colours as the sign. The inside is buzzing with people and the aroma of Italian cuisine being made in the kitchen is wafting around the room.

The walls of the restaurant are a red brick covered in framed pictures of patrons as well as the family that owns the restaurant. It has a very homey feel to it.

We choose to sit at a booth near the kitchen, far from the door, but not too far away from the bathroom.

Sitting down, I realise that the boys look decent.

Noah is wearing light grey jeans with a white button-down shirt and a navy blue vest underneath.

Michael is wearing blue jeans with a black button up shirt and has his sleeves rolled up to his elbows.

After settling down, me in front of Noah who is beside Michael, who is sitting opposite Amelia who is sitting on my left, a waitress comes to our table.

She is wearing a white shirt with the logo of the pizzeria, black jeans and a black apron around her waist. Her name tag reads Zarina. She looks like she's my age, then I realise, she's the quiet girl in my English and Biology classes.
