Chapter 3
During lunch, I sit with Amelia, Samantha and Heather. Heather showed me the texts between her and Hunter and I almost fell face down reading them. They were dirty and I couldn't help but laugh at my friend's replies.
They all talk about outfits for the Summer Soltice Dance but my mind is too preoccupied to join in on the conversation. I play with the food on my tray until I feel like I'm being stared at.
I turn to see Allison Cheng, who is sitting with her posse, staring at me with a scowl on her face.
As I'm about to turn away with a confused look on my face, she stands up and starts walking towards our table.
“What do you want Allison? Because all that make-up is starting to hurt my eyes. Could you please not stand in front of me?”, I say.
She looks at me like I just dumped horse shit all over her Gucci shoes.
“You stay away from Ethan. He's mine. Or else I'll ruin you.” I look at her and I laugh.
“What is there to ruin? My social life that literally doesn't exist? And thank God for that because I wouldn't be able to deal with you and your derogatory comments.”
“Oh,and Ethan told me that you guys aren't a thing. That's why he asked me to the dance.” I say this just to spite her.
She looks at me with an even deeper scowl than before, throwing daggers at me with her eyes. She flips her hair, like she always does, then she sashays away.
“What was that all about?”, Amelia asks. “Ethan asked you to the dance?”, Samantha follows with her own question.
“I guess she just can't seem to get a handle on the fact that Ethan approached me and yes Samantha, he asked me to accompany him to the dance.”
“I knew it first,” Heather says matter-of-factly. “It really does not matter,” I say, trying to make the amazed expressions on their faces go away.
“Does not matter?”, they say in unison. “This is the biggest thing that has happened to you in your high school career and you think it doesn't matter?” Samantha says while waving her arms above her head.
“I wouldn't say it's the biggest thing that has happened in my high school career. It's just a school dance for crying out loud. We're not getting married”, I say, slightly annoyed that my friends think that I haven't accomplished enough in my life so far, and that a boy askig me out is huge.
They make it sound like Jack Griffo asked me out.
“You might not be getting married that evening, but you might in a couple of years”, Heather says while wiggling her eyebrows.
I laugh then say, “I highly doubt that.” We all stand up then go to our next class.

Amelia and I walk into the house after school. It has been a long day. I can't wait for summer, just one more month, but I don't think I'll make it. “I still can't believe you are going to the dance with Ethan”, Amelia says, breaking my train of thought. “You know I haven't said yes yet,” I say, “so I'm not exactly going to the dance with him”
“Don't tell me you're going to pass on this chance to be with Ethan. Didn't you say he literally begged you to go with him?”, she asks.
“I know Amelia, but it's Ethan were talking about here. He might want to go to the dance with me now, but what happens once the dance is over? I don't want to wait for him to break my heart.”
“Oh, please, Emily get over yourself. Do you even hear what you are saying? Why don't you just take the chance? You may never know where it might lead.”
As I'm about to respond to what Amelia just said, I receive a text from an unknown number.
Unknown: Hey, beautiful
Me: Hi. Who is this?
Unknown: It's Ethan. You know, the one who's taking you to the dance.
Me: You know I haven't said yes yet.
Ethan: You haven't said yes yet, but I know you are about to😁.
Me: Don't be too sure of yourself. You might just lose what you are after.
Ethan: Stop playing games Emily. You know you want to go to the dance with me.
Me: OK, fine. I'll go with you to the dance.
Ethan: Really?
Ethan: Oh My Gosh. I cannot believe this.
Ethan: I swear it will be the best night of your life.Me: It better be.
I look up to find Amelia gawking at me. “What?”, I ask her. “Who was that?” “No one.”
Before I could do anything, she grabs the phone from my hands. After two minutes of reading our texts, she looks up at me with the dumbest look she has ever given me in our sixteen years of existence.
“You're going to the dance. With Ethan! I cannot believe this. We need to find you an outfit, ASAP!”
“It really isn't a big deal”, I say, in hope that she won't tell the other two just yet.
But my hopes died out when she took out the phone and texted them.
How do I know she texted them?
I know because I got spammed by texts from the two asking me about what happened.
