Teddy
When I made sure Melisa was in her room, I headed over the infirmary. Charlie was working the night shift and I decided to keep him company.
It was around 12:30 when I got there. He was walking around in the back, so I leaned on the counter and waited for him to notice me.
"Hey." I said quietly
"MOTHER OF . . . TEDDY YOU CAN'T GO AROUND SCARING PEOPLE LKE THAT!" He yelled picking up the bandages he'd thrown when I scared him, "What are you doing here?"
"I came by to help. How's it going around here?"
"10 people were shot, so far no deaths, but we had to send two to the local hospital. We don't have the equipment to help them." There was a sad gleam in his eyes, and I could tell from the way he moved he was exhausted.
"I brought you something." I slipped a Hershey's bar out of my jacket pocket and handed it him, "I raided the vending machine at the post office."
We sat down at the desk and shared it. The moonlight streamed through the window giving Charlie's hair a warm glow. We talked for a bit and he dozed off. I walked down the halls to check on everyone. There was Henry, from the lacrosse team, Sophia, from my math class, Arnold, from history, Derik, he arrived shortly before Jackson, and Maria. She was on the younger side. I found her living in a box in an alley way. She was around 11 maybe 12. There few a few others I recognized but couldn't name. Everyone seemed ok, so I headed back. On my way, I grabbed a blanket from a supply closet and draped it over Charlie's shoulders.
I wasn't tired, I'd slept for most of the day. So instead I thought about earlier. I remember walking back from the post office and seeing the camp entrance surrounded by cop cars. I remember a cop waving a gun in my face demanding if I was the shooter. He kept yelling at me and barking orders until two of his comrades came out with the guy, Jackson's dad. I was having a panic attack from the officer yelling at me and suddenly Charlie was at my side trying to get me to calm down. When he managed that he started yelling at the officer who had threatened me. We went back into camp and met up with Jackson and Angela to make sure they were ok. We left not to long after that. I went back to my room and Charlie went to the infirmary. I wasn't sure how I missed the gunshots from my dorm area as I left to deliver my letter.
I was so lost in thought I didn't realize it was nearing 8 in the morning. Another nurse/doctor in training came in, Victoria.
"Everything alright?" She asked
"Yup, everyone's fine." I replied happily
"You should take him back to his room, I'm taking over anyways. He's been working way too many shifts lately. Don't, under and circumstances, let him get dragged back here."
"Got it." I shook Charlie awake as Victoria went to check on everyone.
"What time is it?" He yawned
"Your shifts over. Come on, let's go back to the dorms."
We slowly walked back. Everyone was just starting their morning activities. I figured we should probably grab some breakfast before going to bed. Charlie wolfed down 2 stacks of pancakes, fruit salad, a muffin, bacon, and eggs. I, on the other hand, settled for toast with jam. When we had finished we walked back to the dorms. I was Charlie's roommate anyways, so when we got back we immediately crashed on our beds.
"I'm exhausted. I've got another late-night shift tonight too." Charlie moaned pulling the covers over his head
"No, you don't. Victoria is going to find a replacement. You've been spending WAY too much time there. You're off today and tomorrow Mr. 'I'm going to work myself to death'!"
