Chase Him Down

Kaito's pov

I was at home resting on the couch in the living room. I was watching the tv and flipping channels because nothing good was playing. I sighed and turned it off. Nothing good was on anyways. I get up and head for my porch in the backyard. I reach into my pocket and pull out a cigarette and lighter. I really shouldn't smoke but fuck it. Maki is still off doing shit so she won't know. I light my cigarette without giving it another thought and started smoking it. I then get a phone call from someone but didn't know who it was because well one its in the house on the other side and two i was too damn lazy to get it. I just let it ring and ill call back later. Once i was almost done. I saw Kokichi run down the back ally from my house. What the hell? I thought he was at the hospital with Shuichi.... what is he doing all the way over here. I quickly smoked the rest of the cigarette and turned off what little left that was burning and ran inside my house to catch up with him. I grabbed my phone and ran to my car and started the engine. I checked my phone and i got 7 missed calls from Kiibo and 2 voice messages from him as well followed by a few texts. I first opened a few of the texts.

Kiibo: Hey are you gonna come by today?
Kiibo: Shuichi woke up if you wanna see how he is doing

Then I opened the first voice message as Kiibo kept texting me

"Hey Kaito there is something important i need to ask of you. Can you bring some pictures and stuff to jog Shuichi's memory he seems to have temporary memory loss can you do me that favor?"

Then my phone vibrates with Kiibo's new text from 10 minutes ago... i dont know why my phone lags but whatever

Kiibo: also when you get here can you look for Kokichi he said he would be back but he isn't im starting to worry.

My eyes widened as i took this all in. Im happy hes okay minus the little memory problem but i wonder how Kokichi took it. Probably not good if he was over by my place.

I opened the second voice message from Kiibo and listened to it

"Kaito please hurry and find Kokichi. I just got a text from him he is pretty upset. He then sent me another text and he plans to hurt himself. Please you have to hurry and find him!"

I immediately started driving off to find him once i heard this. I frantically looked on the side walks and back allies looking for him. I wasn't having much luck until i see him barely as he passed a corner. I turned down that street and get out of my car and chase him down. I ran towards him still chasing him for about 7 minutes. Finally when i caught up to him I tackled him down. He was fighting me to get me off but he couldn't.

"Let me go! I dont wanna go back!" He yelled

"What are you talking about Kokichi?" I said

"Don't take me back to the hospital i knew this was a loss for me!" He said crying at this point

"I thought you wanted to be with him." I said

"He forgot about me... he doesn't remember me at all... not even my name.. i feel so insignificant!" He said putting his hands to his face

"Kokichi Don't say that!" I said

"He was the only reason why I haven't disappeared from this shitty world... ever since i was a child i grew up alone and was always looked down upon...i only made my organization to help the members.. not myself" he said

"Im so sorry Kokichi. I just wish i could help you properly" i said

"Damn it.... out of all the people I didn't wanna lose i just had to lose Shuichi" he said punching the wall and tearing up

"Look Kokichi... we will get him to remember we just need to jog his memory." I said

"What if he can't remember..." he said

"I don't know if he will but I believe in the possibility that he will" i said with a smile.

Kokichi clenched his hand in anger then relaxed it. He took a big breath then exhaled.

"Your right Kaito..." he said

"Kokichi dont overreact he will remember you.. he just has temporary memory loss.. he will be fine I promise." I said reassuring him.

"Fine... I'll believe you this once" he said

"Thats good.. now then will you come with me to the hospital." I said

"I guess..." he said

I look at him and he grabbed me by the jacket arm and walked with me to the car. We got in and I started to drive away to the hospital. Kokichi looked sad... i tried to hold conversation but i was driving. Since it was a long drive from where I live to the hospital in the city i decided to have another cigarette. I offered one to Kokichi and he took it so fast. Kokichi lit his cigarette and then mine because I hadn't done it yet. It shocked me that Kokichi even took the cigarette. I didn't even know he smoked... but then again it didn't surprise me much.

"Kokichi..." i said

"Yeah?" He responded

"You smoke or something? Because I honestly didn't know you did." I said

"Yeah.... i do sometimes just not often. Me and my subordinates do it on occasions." He said

"Does Shuichi know?" I said

"Hell i dont care if he does but i know he isn't okay with it" he replied

"You should be honest to him you know" i said

"Psh yeah right... he keeps a lot of things a secret and doesn't like to tell me" he said

"He probably has his reasons." I said

"yeah so do I Kaito." He said

"Good point" i sighed

"Anyways I was wanting to figure out something from Shuichi but he was being all secretive on me that night we were all out at the bar... I wonder why...." he said

"Beats me Kokichi... he doesn't really talk to us much but that is weird." I said

"All i know is that our story is gonna end as a tragedy i can feel it..." he said resting his head on his hand.

"Now dont talk like that... thats how i felt when i had that coughing problem." I said

"I don't even fucking know why you are preaching to me..." he said

"Im not I'm just stating something." I said

"Hmph same thing...." he said turning away

The rest of the trip was silent. Then about several minutes later we arrived at the hospital.  We both got out of the car and started walking in through the main doors. Kokichi didn't look to happy and stayed quiet the entire time. We walked up to Shuichi's room and knocked on the door. Kokichi's face grew disgusted and uneasy. We both walked in but it stayed extremely quiet. Even Kiibo and Shuichi didn't say a word. Especially after seeing Kokichi's face..it looked like despair  took over him he had this sad look on his face like he was defeated but half of his face was covered by his cape's collar. what made it more creepy was the shadings his hat gave his face. You couldn't help but feel sad or scared of him.
