After the news I proceed to run out the door. I hear my father calling behind me but I dont turn.
I just keep going, going to a particular house that I have in mind

When I reach the small house I take a deep breath before knocking. I stare at the door for a while until I hear thuds from behind the door. The bolt is unlocked and the door opens a crack, just enough to reveal the body behind it.
I stare into the eyes of Michelle Young. She is a middle aged woman with brownish/black hair.
Her gray eyes bore into mine as she registers my face. She immediately opens the door all the way and I barge in.
I'm met with stairs right away and I climb them easily and quick. As I reach the top, I come into contact with several doors. I go quickly into the third door which I know contains who I am looking for.
I push open the room and am greeted by the familiar royal blue walls, much different than my plain white ones. I look around but find the room, to my surprise empty.
I take a look around the room and close the door. I settle down on the bed and peer up at the sketches on the walls. One in particular catches eye and I go over to investigate.
Looking closer I recognize it immediately, mostly because its me. Its drawn with charcoal pencils and smears when I touch it.
"Skylar" a voice says behind me. I gasp and smile because I didn't hear him come in.
"Demetri!" I yell running to the boy across the room.
I fling myself into his arms and hug him deeply. I sigh deeply at his smell.
He smells amazing, like mint and fresh soap. I bury my head into the crook of my next as the tears begin to fall.
Demetri is my best friend, he's 17 like me and Kody and he's perfect. He's got dark brown hair with natural honey blonde highlights. Me and him became friends when Kody screwed up.
He breaks the embrace and looks down into my tearstained hazel eyes.
"What's wrong Sky?" he whispers.
"Its Hayden" I say weakly, looking away from his eyes.
He intakes a sharp breath and waits for me to continue.
I go on and tell him the news I was delivered.
Hayden's doctors had confirmed her speech delay was indeed a sign of autism. They had informed us that not only was Hayden behind, but she also may not get any better.
It breaks my heart seeing this little girl get upset at herself because she can't speak as proper as a normal toddler.
After I finish saying that I look back up at Demetri. His brown eyes are full of fear and worry.
"Dont worry Sky, doctors aren't always right" he says.
"I know, I know" I say and smile at him halfheartedly.
He pulls me into a hug and I instantly regret coming here.
He senses something wrong and pulls away again, questioning me with his eyes. I panic and think of a way to tell him where I spent my day.
"I may have a job with them' I spit out, mumbling my words.
I look up into his eyes just in time to see the hurt flash into his eyes.
He steps away from me and I instantly crave his touch and comforting.
Demetri's POV:
My head is swimming at what Sky just said.
Her? Working with them?
I look back at her and say "Do tell, Miss Wes"
She looks around nervously and clears her throat before starting.
"I'm so sorry De but its whats best! You know the benefits of helping and I couldn't say no. My mom turned in an application and they said they wanted me... I'm only doing it for my family's guaranteed safety" she says, pleading with her eyes.
For a split second I let my guard down. But I can't do it this time. She is always the one with control in this friendship and this has gone too far. As her best friend I think I deserve some right to persuade her to stop.
"Sky do you even remember what they did?!? THEY KILLED MY BROTHER!" I say with tears in my eyes. She softens and reaches her delicate hand to my shoulder but I brush it off, still not finished.
"My best friend is working with the people who killed my brother over a crime he didn't commit! Do you know how damn screwed up that is?"
"The memory system has gotten better" she blubbers as tears roll down her cheeks.
She's referring to the serum. Once it enter the veins it makes you hallucinate. It makes you remember every bad thing you have ever done. Every crime you have ever committed comes back. Every scary thought you have ever pushed away comes back with that dose of clear liquid. The worst part? They watch. They watch your reactions and your memories. That's the crime system nowadays. They freaking watch your memories. But they weren't good enough. Because my brother died over something he didn't do. He didn't shoot them. He couldn't have. But it was too late. They saw the hijacked memory and killed him on the spot. No time to say goodbye.
"Sky" I say choking on my words because of all the tears. I pull the crying girl into my arms and rest my head on her curly halo of hair. She folds into me like perfection and I sigh.
I respect her choices, I really do. The benefits make it all worthwhile. It states right there on the application. "Those who are eligible and become 'the help' are immune to and punishment for any crime ever committed, trusted employee's family's may also be spared". Its a crap shoot. But it pays off.
That's my Sky, looking out for others, even if she screws up her own life.
I assume I would do the same thing. I of course would have done that for Gabe and Jena, but I'm not like Sky. I don't have her skills and was immediately turned down for the application. My mom was so disappointed. But maybe now that Sky's in on the plan my own mother will be happy. She doesn't wanna loose her baby Jena. Perfect little Jena. I've already disappointed her. I have absolutely no doubts that she will try to weasel that protection from Sky. I want to get that for myself. As much as I love Sky, she will protect us 100% and that's amazing. But it isn't her job.
It should be mine.
I am interrupted from my thoughts as there is knocking coming from my door.
A/N: Yay Demetri! Really excited for him and depending on how well his POV goes I might have it keep returning. I hope I cleared up a lot about the serum and Hayden. I'm already loving this story! Dont forget to keep commenting and voting and I'll be back tomorrow! bye!- Sierra:)
