Skylar's POV:
I left Demetri's house in such a hurry, I couldn't explain it. I shouldn't have gotten embarrassed but I hate thinking of me and Kody.
I quickly walk past my house and head in the direction of the building.
Once I reach the building I step inside and sign in. I am led to a small room with two chairs.
I sit in one of them and wait for whatever they have planned.
I hear a door open behind me and I immediately smooth my curls down.
The figure steps in front of me and I gasp.
I'm faced with gorgeous sapphire blue eyes and blonde hair. My heart aches for the boy that is in front of me.
He smirks at me, obviously taking in my flustered state, and I blush.
"Jacob" he says gesturing to himself.
I smile at his soft voice and reply; "Skylar"
"Why are you here Skylar?" he asks intently as he sits in front of me, his blue eyes locking with mine.
The question startles me for a second but I quickly regain my composure. "I was picked"
Jacob rolls his eyes. "Well obviously you were picked, but why are you still here?"
"I need the guaranteed safety for my family."
Jacob leans forward and runs his hand through my curls. It immediately gets stuck and we both flush with embarrassment as he tugs his hand out.
"Did that hurt?" he asks, his face still red.
"Only my pride"
He chuckles at that and I take a deep breath.
"Should we get started?"
I nod my head and he begins.
"As you should know, I will be telling you about the history of the serum. It was created long ago and perfected before we tried it out regularly. It was a groundbreaking discovery. Truly magnificent. Everyone was amazed, that a little bit of liquid could help our community stay safe." he looks at me and chuckles at my wide eyes.
"Oh course there would be some flaws, some delays in the system. Perhaps even some deaths-" he pauses as I flinch. "But its much better now. No more accidents, no deaths, no problems."
"But how do we know? If we kill innocent people, how do we know that they are innocent?" I ask cautiously.
Jacob looks at me then.
"We see better dreams" he says, shattering my heart.
"We see dreams that show for certain that they did it. That's when we know that we messed up. We all feel terrible, we truly do. And we make it as easy as possible to their family because of the loss."
I stare blankly at the floor and remember the authorities telling De that Gabe was gone. A week later they came back, only to tell his family that they messed up. He wasn't supposed to die, he didn't do it, he didn't kill that woman.
But we all knew that. And they wouldn't listen.
I sat with De for hours, he cried and cried. Something he doesn't do often, he doesn't like to show his feelings. He was the complete opposite of his mother. She was stonefaced through the whole thing. Didn't shed a tear throughout the whole service. She just stared at nothing the whole time.
Almost like she didn't care.
Jacob is the first to break the silence; "Skylar?"
I look up at his concerned face and nod at him to continue.
"I think you've had enough, babe"
"But- Why?" I ask him stupidly.
"We'll finish tomorrow" then he adds with a smirk; "It gives me an excuse to see you tomorrow"
I blush excessively at his words and thank the boy. He couldn't be any older than me, his face still showed the roundness of childhood that we all seem to possess.
I stand and start to thank him but he just brushes me off, "Any time, and I mean it. Like we should talk, outside of work"
"Oh, of course" I say with a wink.
I stand to leave and walk out the door.
A/N: I was a little lost with this chapter but I'm hoping it turned our ok. Jacob though;) I'll update again tonight!
