I turn down our street and run to my house.
I reach my house and burst through the air.
I see my family at the table as I come in.
"Mama?"
"Skylar...sweetie come sit down baby" she says quietly.
I take a seat next to my brother Jaxon and ruffle his hair. He's a a 8 year old with an attitude. He always wants it his way and that's how it always was.
His eyes are bright blue and his dark brown hair sets us apart.
He looks at me and fixes me with a death glare for messing up his hairstyle. I return the favor and stick out my tongue at him.
I hear poundings coming from the staircase and turn around in my chair to be faced with Hayden.
"Sky!" she squeals.
"Hay!" I respond with an equal amount of excitement.
I jump out of my chair and help her down the steps. I pick her up and take her to her booster seat.
Hayden's my gem. She has strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes just like our mother.
"Skylar Marie Wes, put her down at once and come sit like a civilized person" my father scolds.
I do as told and sit Hayden in her faded blue booster seat. I walk around to sit next to Jaxon with my head down.
As we begin the meal my mother speaks up and addresses the white elephant in the room. "How did you do sweetheart?"
My father turns and scowls at her and then turns towards me. Jaxon beside me goes silent and stops chewing his food. Hayden senses the silence and stops mushing her food and looks up.
"Well mom, I believe I did alright" I say shakily.
"Yes but tell us... what did they have you do?"
I go on and tell them all about my day and everyone I came encountered with.
After I tell them about my first two patients I proceed to tell them about Kody.
At the mention of Kody's name my mother drops her silverware and starts coughing.
"Good God Jane, get a grip will you?" my father snaps.
"I'm leaving" Jaxon says while getting up. "Take Hayden please" my dad says while pinching the bridge of his nose.
"I'm fine Jake" my mom says, recovering from her coughing fit.
"So you tested him?" my father says.
"Yep"
"And?"
"He was cocky, like he hasn't done anything"
"Oh we will see soon won't we? Troublemakers always get their punishment after the memories have been watched."
I shiver at my fathers words but he isn't finished.
"I can't believe you are helping them. You handle the serum that helps us all. Skylar that's a huge responsibility, and I'm not sure you can handle it."
I stare at my father in pure fury. How could him, of all people, doubt me? I feel the tears threaten to leave my eyes but my rage pushes them away.
"I suppose now wouldn't be a good time to mention Hayden's appointment, would it? my mom squeaks.
I break my gaze from my fathers and tell her to go on.
What she proceeds to tell me breaks my heart and rocks my world.
A/N: This chapter wasn't as fun to write for some reason. And Im thinking that it will show in my writing. Next chapter should be better since I'm planning on introducing new things. Thanks for all the support and dont forget to comment and vote! ~Sierra
