Skylar's POV:
I reach my house soon and pause a moment to stop panting. I open up the door and come face to face with my parents. My mother comes and engulfs me in a hug. When she pulls away my father comes over to me and looks me in the eye. He closes his eyes and heavy sighs, then opens them.
Without any notice I'm greeted with a slap across the face. The stinging pain spreads across my left cheek and brings tears to my eyes.
I stare squarely up at my father, who has his mouth open in shock. My mother rushes to me and starts blubbering apologies and making sure I am alright.
I smile warmly at her through the pain and quickly make my way upstairs. The tears are flowing freely now. At the top of the stairs I come face to face with Jaxon. He takes in my appearance and looks shocked. I brush last him and enter my room.
I quickly shut the door and stare blankly at my plain walls. I go over to my set of drawers and pull out my needed items. I take off my clothes from today and quickly change into my pajamas. I set my old clothes aside and step in front of my mirror.
I stare at my face in horror as I take in my puffy eyes and stinging red cheek. I pull my wild curly hair into a ponytail to keep my fringe out of my face.
Opening my door as quietly as possible, I step out into the hallway. I stalk towards the bathroom and freeze when I hear arguing from downstairs. I soon relax and make it into the bathroom undetected.
After I turn on the light, I get out my toothbrush and some toothpaste. I quickly brush my teeth and use the toilet before heading back into my room.
When I'm there I grab a book from my bookshelf and lay down on my bed.
I open it up to the 209th page and read the first sentence.
"The moment mom got home from work on Friday, I told her that I was going to a concert with Radar and then proceeded to drive out to rural Seminole County to see Collier Farms" (if you guess that book right I'll love ya forever)
I start on the next sentence when someone barges in. I look up to see my mother with tears running down her face. She walks over to me pulls me in for a tight hug. She tells me that she is off to bed and that I should get some sleep. I say okay and she smiles, even though we both knew I was lying.
She leaves and shuts the door. I wait a few minutes thinking my father will be in right after her. But I'm wrong. He never comes.
-----------------------------------
A few hours later I hear a slam of the door downstairs. I am off guard for a second when I hear heavy footsteps coming up the stairs. The footsteps get louder and they seem to be right outside my door. They suddenly stop. I'm holding my as I see the knob on the door slowly spin.
Just as the door is about to open, it doesn't and I hear the footsteps fading. A door down the hall opens and boards creaking. The door slams shut and it is then dead silent.
I go to open my book again when I'm stopped by a bloodcurdling scream, muffled by the closed door.
