I Fell In Love With A Merman [Joshler]

When the merman opened his eyes, I was blown away. His eyes were so beautiful. A golden brown color they were.

When he laid his eyes on me, I smiled. However he whimpered and winced. His tail started flopping. I touched his shoulder.

"It's okay, I'm not gonna hurt you."

I realized that the merman needed to be back in water. When I tried lifting him by his shoulders, he whimpered.

"I'm just taking you back to shallow water." I told him. "I won't you hurt you, I promise."

The merman looked into my eyes, that's when he realized I wasn't harming him.

I carried him over the by the rocks to a shallow area of the water near the midway of the sea.
The merman swam over to the rocks so he could see me. He wasn't afraid of me much anymore. Well, I hope he wasn't.

I kneeled next to him.

"You are a merman?" I asked.

He nodded.

"Do you have a name?"

He nodded.

I pointed to myself.

"My name, is Tyler." I said.

He didn't respond his name because it looked he didn't understand what I was saying.

"Can you understand English?" I asked.

The merman nodded.

"I am Tyler. Ty-ler."

The merman took his hand and pointed at himself while using his other hand to hold on to the rocks.

"I...am...J-Joshua."

I smiled.

"I think Josh suits you very well."

Josh made a weird look at me.

"I'm going to call you Josh." I said.

The merman splashed his tail against the water. He looked like was excited.

I smiled at him.

"Do you like it?" I asked.

Josh nodded.

"Joshua...really like...Josh." He said.

"Perfect." I said. "You are from the ocean?"

Josh nodded.

"Why do you come to the surface?" I asked.

"To...swim." He said faintly. "Mermen like to swim."

"How did you get caught in that crab trap?"

"I was...catching...crab...to eat." He said. "I tried to...get away...but...it caught me. And you...saved me."

I smiled.

"But...I can't be near humans."

"Why not?" I asked.

"Because...humans...are bad." He said.

"They...hurt...us."

"I am a human." I replied. "But I didn't hurt you."

"Still." He said. "Any human...harmful to us."

"Josh, I am a good human." I told him. "I would never hurt you. I have a kind soul to anything on this earth."

I held out my hand.

"I am good. Trust me."

Josh slowly but lightly touched my hand. He didn't wince or shake.

As our hands touched, Josh looked at me and smiled.

"Josh trusts Tyler." He said. "Josh...not afraid...of good human."

I smiled back.

"Good." I said.

Suddenly, I heard the sound of my mom looking for me. I stood up.

"I must go."

"When...will Josh...see Tyler again?" He asked.

"Tomorrow morning." I told him. "Right here."
Josh nodded.

"I will...remember...where Tyler...wants me...to meet...him."

I nodded back.

"Goodbye Josh."

Josh waved and disappeared back into the ocean.

"Beautiful." I said as I watched him go back into the sea.

I walked back onto the beach. I couldn't see my brothers and sister playing anymore. They must be inside now.

I turned around to see a few mermaids swimming. One of them was Josh. He looked so beautiful.

"Tyler? Are you coming in?" My mom asked.

"Yeah." I said. "I'm coming."

I headed inside of the house. Still thinking about the merman.
