"I need to sleep. It's the only way to see Josh tonight."

"Whatcha thinking about?" Madison asked.

"Oh, just things." I said, still deep in my mind.

"Josh, the merman, I want to see him tonight."

"You've been going out to the ocean more often." She said. "Do you like it?"

"Yes Maddy, I really do."

I turned away.

"I'm still afraid to get in the water."

"Obviously because you're a baby." She teased.

I chuckled.

"Well, you are right on that one."

I laid down on my bed.

"Why are you in bed?"

"I didn't get enough sleep last night." I told her.

"If you sleep during the day, you'll be up at night."

"I'm not gonna be up tonight." I said.

Madison walked off.

"Whatever."

I shut off the lights and went to sleep.

"Tyler, you need to wake up now!"

I lifted my head up quickly. I looked at my alarm.

"Shit, it's midnight."

I ran outside quickly and quietly. Thank god I didn't wake up anyone. Especially my curious sister.

When I came out onto the beach, it looked so beautiful. How blue the water looked with the moon shining down, how the waves crashed against the rocks. My merman friend lives in the most beautiful place in the world.

I sat along the sea rocks, awaiting for Josh to appear out of the water.

Minutes went to hours, and still couldn't see him. All I could see was the calm water, and the sound of the waves.

"Where is Josh?"

I fell asleep while waiting.

Hours later, I woke up to the sun rising. And there was Josh sitting over me.

"Hello Tyler." He said.

I smiled.

"Hi Josh."

"Come look, dolphins."

I sat up and saw the beautiful rising sun. Along with dolphins swimming in the water.

"Beautiful."

"Dolphins are good swimmers." Josh said. "Soon, I teach you."

"I've waited all night." I told him. "Why didn't you come?"

"I was...afraid." He said. "But now, I am not."

"There is no need to be afraid." I said.

"I understand now...because Tyler encourage Josh...to not be afraid."

I smiled.

"Well then, are you going to teach me how to swim?"

"Yes." He said.

He pulled me into the water with his hands. I screamed and splashed because I was afraid he'd let go.

"Josh is helping you." He said. "Keep holding onto me."

I did as he told me. I held onto him as he swam across the water.

"Kick your legs." He said.

I kicked my legs just like he said.

"Tyler is learning." He said; smiling.

After he held me for a while, he asked me to let go and try on my own. And I did. And I felt a lot more confident about swimming.

As I swam, Josh pulled back into his arms.
We span around the water splashing each other.

"This is fun!" I said.

Josh looked at me awkwardly.

"It means your having a good time."

Josh smiled.

"I enjoy...spending time...good human whom I love."

He pulled me close to him and kissed me, right on the lips.
