Currently I am pulling myself up the last few branches on the tree outside of Lydia's hospital room window with Derek standing below, keeping an eye out and ready to catch me if I fall.
"This is such a bad idea," He shouts quietly up to me.
"No it's initiative," and shout back, "and fun!" As I heave myself up the last branch.
"Why couldn't we just sneak in through the door?" He asks.
"Because she's in the recovery section and you need to be family to even go into that part of the hospital." I explain, before jumping over to the window ledge and gripping on tight.
"Fair enough." He shrugs.
"You, wait here, I'll be back soon." I tell him before cracking the window open and hoisting myself through, causing the closed blinds to rattle.
I hear a gun safety clip click off and freeze on my position behind the blinds.
"I come in peace!" I quickly say squinting my eyes closed and raising may hands in surrender.
I feel the blinds being pulled off of me but keep my eyes closed.
"Alex?" I hear Lydia say, making me relax and slowly open my eyes, "Jordan, relax she's a friend."
The young deputy lowers his gun hesitantly and apologised to me. I walk out from behind the blinds and he drops them back down.
"It's cool, not the first time I'm had a gun pulled on me," I chuckle dryly, "you're Parrish I assume?"
"Yes, good to meet you, Alexa is it?" He replies, politely.
"That's me." I confirm before rushing to Lydia's side, "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, the surgery went well apparently," she tells me, "but Alex, are you alright?"
"What do you mean?" I ask confused as to how she could possibly know about what happened.
"I thought you were going to die," she slowly says, "or did die."
"Banshee?" I ask.
"Yeah, what happened?" She questions, concern in her voice. She taps the space on the side of the bed, gesturing for me to sit down, so I do.
"I fell off my bike, but I couldn't heal, it was a psychological thing apparently," I explain, "so, Uh, Peter had to pull me out with the help of Liam."
"Peter? You saw him?" She gasps, "he saw you?"
"Yeah," I say lowering my gaze to my lap, where I fiddle with my fingers.
"Sweetie, come here," she offers, stiffly packing her arms around me. "It'll be okay, we won't let him hurt you."
"I know you won't, I just wasn't ready to see him just yet." I explain.
"There never would have been a right time," she points out, comfortingly, "now you don't have to worry about him finding out about you."
"I suppose." I reply, her arm still sling around my shoulder. We sit in an comfortable silence for a minute or so before I stand and speak up. "What are you doing here, by the way Parrish?"
"Officially, I'm here to gather eyewitness testimony, and to keep an eye on Lydia," he tells me, turning away from the muted TV which is displaying some sort of fighting, "unofficially, I'm trying to find something to watch, but the only thing that comes in is this Kung Fu movie." He replies, turning back to face the screen.
I chuckle, "maybe you can pick up some extra moves."
"Extra?" He raises an eyebrow.
"You were in the army, right?" I check.
"Yes, I was, how did you know that?" He asks, shocked.
"Your posture, the way you speak," I list, "let me guess, you dealt with explosives?"
"Did the others tell you this?" He asks in confusion.
"No, you did," I correct, "indirectly, you have extremely steady hands, they're not shaking even in the slightest even when I made you guys jump coming in through the window; it was just an observation, a guess." I continue with a shrug.
I look between the pair of shocked faces.
"What?" I laugh, "I can read people."
"Heh, yeah." Parrish breaths out.
"Amazingly." Lydia agrees.
"Why thank you," I joke, with a quick curtsy, "Are you going to be alright here overnight? Or do you want me to stay with you?" I ask Lydia.
"No, no, go home, get some rest, you've had a long day too," Lydia rambles.
"You're such a mom," I laugh.
"Sorry!" She apologises.
"No it's fine," I say, smiling, "it's one of your many great qualities."
She send be a huge smile which I return.
"All right then, I'm off, Derek's waiting outside," I sigh, "look after her Deputy Parrish." I say sternly, but break the act by sending him a salute, which he of course returns. "Army," I whisper, causing him to chuckle quietly.
"Be careful," Lydia calls out, as I begin to climb out of the window.
"I always am." I call out as I jump from the window back onto the tree branch, near the top.
I slide down but until I'm only a two or three meters from the ground and jump down, making a zoned out Derek jump.
"Shit," he jumps.
"Watch your mouth old man." I say playfully shoving him as we walk together back to his car.
He laughs causing me to smile, he slings an arm over my shoulder and I lean into him as we walk along. When we arrive at the car, we part to either side of it and climb in once he's unlocked it.
He puts the key into the ignition and turns it, spurring the car into life.
"Let's get you home," he says, driving out of the hospital, "it's like 1 AM."
I go to reply but before I can my eyes begin to droop, leaving me to hum in response, and I quickly fall asleep with a smile on my face.
The worst person may know about me now, but the best people already did.
