The past few days have been bittersweet. Loren officially started leasing Ace. Conway is really improving. I've been riding him everyday for the past three days. I'm not on good terms with my parents. After the conversation about Ace, we had an argument about being respectful.

It's gotten to the point where I've practically been living in my room. I have a mini fridge in there, for crying out loud! If I'm not in there, I'm outside with the horses. Today, has been uneventful. I can't ride due to the snow, but I need to run some errands.

I grab my purse and head out to my truck. I drive into town and get my groceries, then I go to the tack store. Conway desperately needs a new halter and blanket. I swear, that horse lives to ruin things. I pick out a red halter and I get a blue medium blanket. Hopefully he wont ruin these.

As I head out the the truck I drop the bag that the blanket is in. I reach to get it, until I see someone else picking it up. I look up to see a very tall boy (although most people are taller than e since I'm only 5'3.) He has hazel eyes and dirty blonde hair.

"Here you go ma'am." he says, handing me the bag. I take it.

"Thanks." I briefly respond, continuing to walk to my car. He follows me. As he does, my pace quickens. I really hope that he's not some stalker!

"My name is Derek." he says. He expects me to respond, but I don't. "Um, what's your name?"

"Nora." I say.

"That's a beautiful name. Could I get your number?" I spin around to look at him. He seems really hopeful.

"Look, I appreciate you picking up my bag for me and for calling my name beautiful, but I don't know anything about you and I don't usually give my number to strangers." I continue walking, but he follows me.

"Well, then maybe we should get to know each other. I'm seventeen, I work at Whole Foods, and I'm really stubborn."

"Oh, really? So am I!" I say.

"See, we already have something in common!" I finally get to my car and put my things in the passenger seat. Knowing that Derek is still behind me, I turn to face him. I sigh before speaking again.

"Fine. I'll give you my number."

Derek looks relieved. I enter it into his phone before getting in my truck and driving away. When I get back to the house I put my food in the mini fridge and go to put Conway's new blanket onto him.

"Do not ruin this." I say to him. His ears perk forward and he nuzzles my shoulder. I laugh at him. Who couldn't love this horse? Although, he's been even more rambunctious since he got a new paddock mate: a palomino quarter horse named Isla.

He's been trying to impress her since the day she arrived, but she ignores him. It's a cliche tragic love story. He trots over to her, but she gallops away. I laugh at him again, until I hear someone call my name.

"Nora, could you come inside please?" My dad asks.
