"Well?" My mom snaps. She's really ticked off with me. I compose myself and respond.

"I went to get some food with Greyson." I coolly say. Maybe if I remain calm, she'll be calm... hopefully.

"You didn't call or text! For all I knew, you could have died!" She rambles on, "I was seconds away from calling the police, Nora."

"Just stop!" I shout, "I'm fine, mom. I was with someone, and for your information, I did text you."

My mom shoots me a look of confusion, the goes to get her phone. She proceeds to read the text I sent to her thirty minutes ago, "'I'm with Greyson. I'll be home soon.'" She sighs and collapses onto the couch.

"I'm sorry, sweetheart."

"It's fine." I mutter. We stay silent for an awkward amount of time before I go up to my room. I swear, I cannot wait to move out on my own. I change into leggings and a sweatshirt. I try to drift to sleep, when I hear a knock on my door. Seriously?

I open the door and see my dad. He looks worried; really worried. My stomach drops. It had to be about on of the horses.

"Ronan is colicing." dad says, "His owner will be here in an hour." I run put to the barn to help in any way I can. Ronan is one of our biggest horses, standing at 17.3hh. The chestnut gentle giant has done everything: jumping, trail, barrel racing, but has ultimately been retired and is just used for trail rides now.

He was the horse I learned to post on. I don't want to lose him! I spot Greyson walking him around. Thank God, he was able to get him up.

"How can I help?" I ask.

"We just have to keep walking him. The vet and owner will be here soon."

We take turns throughout the night, and after a while, things start to look up. The vet says that Ronan will be fine.

"I don't have the money to pay for the vet bill!" says Ronan's  owner. He's been here a long time, but has had financial issues and was going to move to a cheaper barn because of that.

"I'm going to have to sell him!"

"I'll take him." says Greyson. I turn to him. Can he afford that? Apparently, yes. Greyson buys Ronan and pays the vet.

"What was that about?" I ask him. He shrugs.

"I like the horse. I need someone to ride."

"Greyson, you surprise me!"
