Chapter 23: Off the cliff

I woke up early as usual, Newt was still sleeping I didn't want to wake him up I got up and dressed. I finished tieing up my combat boots and I headed out. I met up with Thomas and Minho to eat breakfast.

"Hey guys, how are you to doing?" I asked when I sat down.

"Well I was talking to Alby so I have to spend one night in the pit with no food since I ran into the maze without being a runner." He said and rolled his eyes, I laughed a little bit and turned to Minho.

"Wait why now are you getting your punishment if that happened a week an a half ago?" Minho asked Thomas with a confused look on his face.

"Since Newt was out he was kind of the main priority and I had to take his place as a track-hoe." Thomas explained Minho and I just nodded in responce. We finished eating Minho and I headed to the map room to go and get our stuff while Thomas stayed and talked to Frypan.

"You ready to get out there? How's your ankle?" I asked Minho since I didn't really get to talk to him very much.

"Yea I'm ready, It's shucked but you know." He said looking and rolling his ankle. We headed out to the doors Thomas and Chuck were waiting by the doors.

"Good luck you guys please be careful" Chuck said before the doors opened. I pulled him into a tight embrace we stayed like that for a moment until we broke apart.

"Don't worry Chuckie we'll come back and if anything goes wrong I'll tell Thomas" he gave a slight nod then the doors opened. "Lets go I said and started sprinting into the maze I waved bye to Thomas and Chuck before turning the corner. As usual we ran for about 5 hours mapping the maze then stopped to eat lunch. Then when we were done we got up and kept going, we ran for a couple more hours and it was about time to start heading back. But then we saw a Griever I looked at Minho and I put a finger on my lips signaling him to be quiet. It was just running it wasn't looking for anything which was weird.

"Imma follow it to see where it's going" I told Minho and before giving him anytime to respond I was already half way down the corridor. He hesitantly followed we followed it to the cliff, then we hid behind the wall. Then the Griever jumped off of the cliff and it just vanished I looked at Minho with a confused look on my face only to see him giving me the same face.

"Let's go and check this out" I said he nodded and we headed over to the cliff. "How did it just vanish into thin air?" I asked. We both shrugged then I got an idea. "Hey Minho go and grab some rocks I'll do the same and put them here into a big pile." I think he understood what I was going to do so Minho and I started grabbing rocks and placing them into a big pile. Then after about 5 minutes of collecting rocks I told Minho to start throwing some but to take turns. So one by one taking turns we threw rocks in we watched as they just kept falling and falling into nothingness. Until I threw a rock towards the center of the cliff and it just vanished into thin air like the Griever did.

"Hey y/n throw another one in the same spot" Minho said passing me another rock and I did I threw it right where I did last time and it happened again just disappeared into thin air.

"We should tell Alby about this when we get back to the glade" I said Minho nodded in response. I looked at my watch and it was time to go we only had an hour to get back to the glade. "We've gotta start heading back unless you wanna be stuck out here for another night." I said we both grabbed our bags and started sprinting back to the glade. We made it with 2 minutes to spare we were greeted by Thomas, Chuck, and Newt. Newt was on cruches like Minho was and he wasn't to shabby with them at all.

"Did you guys find anything?" Thomas asked eagerly.

"Oh we found something alright" I said "the Greivers go off of the cliff." Newt and Chuck looked at me like I was crazy. "It's true there's like this secret passage or something." They look at Minho.

"It's true" is all he said. After that Minho and I headed to the map room put our stuff away and drew the maps. After we were done it was dinner time we sat with Alby to discuss what we found.

"Ok well I'm going to run with you guys tomorrow I wanna see this with my own eyes." Alby said.

"Good that" I replied the three of us finished our food and put our plates up I said my good nights to everyone and went to my hut.

"Hello love" Newt said as I opened the door and walked in.

"Hey yourself" I said back with a little laugh.

"Can we talk?" He asked me my heart stopped at those words fear started filling in but I tried my best to hide it.

"Of course" I replied I sat on the edge of my bed and he sat on the edge of his. He looked up at me with tears filling his eyes. "Newt what's wrong?" I asked concerningly. He grabbed my hand and held up my hand and arm.

"Why did you cut yourself why y/n" tears were starting to run down his face. I started to cry I was speechless at the moment.

"I-I just couldn't deal with the pain Newt please don't be mad I'm so so sorry" at this point I was sobbing into my hands. Newt pulled me into a hug and we stayed like that just crying onto each other, then he cupped my cheeks and pulled me into a kiss.

"I'm not mad I'm just sad I don't want to see you in pain" he said.

"And I don't want to see you in pain either" I replied. We just sat in silence for a couple minutes, then we both lied down he pulled me into his chest I kissed his cheek.

"I love you Newt" I said to him before closing my eyes.

"I love you to y/n" he replied I smiled then let my eyelids drop and let sleep take over.

Hey guys I'm so so so so sorry that I haven't updated in a month! I was just so busy with track then going to Tennessee then parties. I've just been really busy but I'm back and I'm going to try and post regularly again but also thank you for 2.25k reads I'm so so thankful for you guys thank you so much I hope you guys are liking the story so far.
