The Only Reason

Chapter 7

Jade's pov

"Let's go outside" Ashton said and took my hand.

We slid the door open and walked over to the fire. I got eye contact with Calum and for a second he looked sad, and disappointed. I realised me and Ashton were still holding hands so I released my grip as I sat down.

"Do you want a marshmallow?" I looked at Ashton.

"No thanks"

"Catch!" He suddenly said and threw the marshmallow at me.

"Ashtoooon" I said and laughed.

"It's Ashley actually" he said and pretended to flip his hair over his shoulder, just like Calum did once.

I looked over at Calum but he wasn't there anymore.

"I'm just gonna check up on Cal" I said and Ashton's smile disappeared and he had a sad look on his face now.

"Calum?" I said once I got inside but he was nowhere to be found. I kept looking and decided to check if his car was still in our driveway.

I opened the front door to see Calum sitting on the doorstep, smoking.

"Cal.." I said and sat beside him. He just stared at the ground in front of him.

"Did I do something?" He looked at me when I said those words.

"No! I'm just... it's nothing." he put the cigarette between his lips once again.

"You listened to me when I had problems, so I'm here to listen to you. And to take care of those we don't wanna lose" I remembered that he'd said that so he looked up at me and smiled.

"It's stupid"

"No it's not" I put a hand on his shoulder.

"I guess I was just... jealous when I saw you getting along so good with the boys.. and Ashton" he looked the other way so I couldn't see his face.

"They're nice. But none of them have taken me on a road trip." I smiled and he gave me one of his cute smiles.

"Oh and can I.." I said and looked at the cigarette. He gave it to me with a smirk.

"I didn't know you smoked"

"I don't" I said and threw it on the ground and stomped on it.

"It's not good for you" I said and he opened his mouth to say something but closed it again.

"Don't. Smoke." I said.

"But!-"

"No!" I cut him off and he chuckled.

"What?"

"You're bossy. I like it" he grinned and I punched him on his chest.

"Shut up Hood. Let's just go back to the others"

"Whatever you say boss"

"Don't call me that" i tried not to laugh.

"Is babe better?" He said and my face turned red.

"Just shut up" I said and smiled to myself.

He just called me babe.

"So" ashton scratched the back of his neck " I was just wondering if you wanted to go see a movie someday?"

Did he just ask me out.

Holy shit.

"Uhm... like a date?" I asked.

We were standing at the front door, the rest of the boys, except Calum and my brother, was already in their cars.

"Yeah, like a date" he smiled.

"Is this a prank?" I mumbled and looked at my feet. No one ever asks me out.

"No! I'd never do that to you!" He said and took my hands in his.

"Really?" I finally looked into his eyes.

"Yes"

"Okay"

"Okay?" He looked at me confused.

"Okay, I'll go on a date with you" I chuckled.

"Oh. Great! I'll pick you up at 7 on Friday" he gave me a hug and jogged to the others.

I decided to go to the living room where Calum was, but when I turned around he was standing behind me.

"I'm gonna go now too" he looked sad.

"What, why?" I asked but his jacket was already on.

"See you tomorrow" he said and before I could say anything else, he was out the door.

I watched as he drove by my house and disappeared.

Did he hear Ashton ask me out?

"What was all that about?" Jake asked.

"I don't know" I answered and went up to my room. I set my alarm and fell asleep with clothes on and everything.

The night flew by and it felt like I'd only slept for 15 minutes once my alarm went off.

"Ugh" I groaned and hit snooze.

I'm not ready for school. It's so boring and they literally teach us stuff we'll never use in the future. That's it, I'm skipping school today so I can sleep in.

"Jaaade" Jake said just as I fell back asleep.

"Nooo" I mumbled.

"You're not skipping school, get up or I'll drag you out of bed myself."

"You're not my mother, let me sleep"

"You're right, I'm not your mother. But, she's not here so I'm taking her place for now. Get up or I'll splash water all over you."

I groaned again and rolled out of bed, literally.

I stood up from the floor and headed to the bathroom. He was still standing outside my door so I gave him a death glare when I walked past him.

"I was really comfy" I said and got a laugh in response.

I only talked to Calum a few times throughout the day. He was very quiet, even with his friends. Me being me, I jumped to conclusions and thought he was ashamed of me. So I let him be.

Right before going to bed at the end of the day I took out my blade... I don't even cry anymore when I do it. Im just numb.

My phone buzzed when I put my blade away.
