Packs are off kilter when an Alpha or Luna are gone or missing. A rogue pack is no different. Cody been filling in for dad, some pack members know what has happened, as others don't.
Helping Cody with paperwork, the task load has been heavily placed on his shoulders are starting to weigh him down.
Standing up straight, I reach my arms up, popping a couple my joints. "Okay that's it, I'm calling both of us take a brake "
Cody doesn't take his eye's off the paperwork, as he reads them. "Go on and rest I got this."
Rolling my eye's, I snatch the papers. His head wipes up at me and glares. "I said both of us to take a brake. You've been sitting to long and this room starting to smell like dead recycled air."
"Then open a window! I don't have time to take a brake, dad-"
"Dad knows when to work, when to rest, eat and be around family. An hour or two away from this will reboot your mind and give your eyes a rest. Now get your ass out of the chair and go have something to eat." Going around his chair, I turn it and basically tip him out of it. "Now get out."
He growls, glaring over his shoulder at me. "I don't-"
I'm in front of him before he can say anymore. "I will sick your niece on you. So if you know what's good for you, you get out of this room and breath some fresh air." He stands up, glaring down at me. Pointing my finger at the door, a growl vibrates up from my throat. "Get out of the office Cody."
He growls back at me, but leaves the office anyways.
Relaxing, I look at the family photos on dad desk. They go from back when there was so many of us and all the way to the last of us. We can't lose you dad. Your all we have left. Taking a deep breath, I clear my mind and think of dad. I think of where he could be and what shape he is in.
Taking in a deep breath, I let it out slowly. But as I leave his office, I stop short when I see the waterfall from back home. From when we were children.
Heart pounding, I run from the office. The home lands. He has to be there.
I run past Cody and Maria. But it's Austin that catches me by the waist and spins me around, to face them. "Where are you going to love?" He rubs his nose against my hair, sending sparks threw my body and making me shutter slightly.
My eye's look over those of my family and then to my mate. I think I know where dad is. Cody you need to stay here and watch over things. I'll go back to the home lands by myself.
They both growl deeply, making Maria look between them. "You guys have been acting weird since you came back this morning." She remarks.
Clearing my throat, I look to her. "Sorry Maria, we just had trouble last night and it's left us shaken is all." She looks at me, like she doesn't know to believe me or not, but then looks to my brother, like he'll tell her what I'm not telling her. "Cody-"
He looks at Maria and shakes his head agreeing with me, and then looks to me. "Maria it's nothing to worry about, I promise. You know I would tell you, if there was something threatening the pack and family."
"Hump, fine." she grumbles.
Cody pats her head. "Let's go find some kids you can hang out for a bit." He then pats her on the head and they walk away.
Austin rubs his finger under my shirt and rubs his skin against mine. "Your not going alone," he whispers.
"Fine, but if something goes wrong, you have to come back no matter what."
"So do you," he whispers.
Someone pounds on the door then. Turning away from him, I go to the door and open it. Standing in front of me, is a handful of pack members. "Where is our Alpha?"
Austin follows me outside, closing the door behind him. "I promise, things are being taken care of. I just ask that you all hang on, dad knows that Cody is a good man to lead. So please, I ask that you all just hang tight and say nothing to Maria or the other young pups. We don't need them frighten."
An older woman steps up, holding a cane. "What about the full moon celebration? It's only three days from now."
Austin looks at me, confused. "It will go on as planned, dad never canceled it before and it won't be canceled now."
More of them ask questions, over lapping one another, asking questions like "what if the other packs find out that your dad gone", "we have to move soon, if they find out" or my personal favorite "everything would be fine, if you had just found your mate here back at home".
Austin body shakes, as the pack questions me, never stopping to let me speak. "Enough!" He orders out in his Alpha voices.
My old pack, goes ridge, not daring to say another word. Stepping forward, I hold out my hands to them, in a way telling them I won't hurt them. "Please everyone, things are being taken care of, just hold on."
Many look doubt full, as others looked worried the ghosts of our past will come for us all.
After they stand around for another minute or so, they slowly walking away.
Austin rubs my back, as we watch the pack walk away. "You did good," he whispers softly.
Taking out a shaken breath, I want to believe him, that I did a good job at keeping the pack in their right minds. But they won't stay that way. They will grow more nerves with the full moon coming, without dad here. They know dad wants Cody to become the next Alpha, but they are still scared without knowing where he is.
"We need to go pack."
