"Why lately I ain't been the same

And why I try so hard to hide this pain

I can search but I can't never find

can't seem to leave my past behind

all the ones i hope to stay

are all the ones that fade away"

#Chapter4

11 year old Essence watched her parents in admiration. Her parents were her rock and she looked up to them.

They were laughing at a joke their dad had attempted to make funny, it was only funny because it wasn't funny.

"Daddy your not funny" Essence says, her soft giggles filling the car.

"I didn't ask you were I funny, shut the fuck up and sit back" Her dad said, venom in his voice. Essence quiet down and sat back.

For some reason her parents treated her different from her siblings. Essence did everything in her power to please them , yet they were never satisfied.

Essence didn't blame her parents for not liking her, she thought she wasn't likable anyway. Essence tried to better herself for her parents. She wanted to be the perfect daughter.

She wanted a bond with them like they had with her sister and brothers.

Nyema grabbed Essence hand, giving her a comforting smile. Nyema was a year older than Essence.

She noticed how her parents treated them different and she didn't like it one bit. She saw how their words affected Essence.

"Nyema baby would you like ice cream after the graduation?" Their mother asked , looking at nyema with a smile.

"Yes mommy, could Essence come with us? She never goes with us"

Her mother's smile was quickly replaced with a scowl at the mention of Essence name. She had developed hatred for her daughter, because she wasn't enough to be her daughter.

She was embarrassed to have given birth to an unworthy thing like Essence.

"Mommy! The road their's a truck!" Nyema yelled. Their mom turned to the road, her eyes widening at the truck in front of them.

Within seconds the truck smashed into their car, sending it off the road and tumbling into bushes.

Essence opened her eyes, seeing everything in a blur. She heard voices and saw different shades of light.

The pain registered in flowing through her body causing her to whine. She felt something hard underneath her.

She tried to get up, but pain struck through her arm causing her to lay back down.

A light groan caused her to turn around. Her eyes watered seeing she was on top of her sister.
