There's a new girl joining. I don't actually care, to be honest. Because I'm too busy laughing at Amber and Katy.
"Sshh, there's a new girl! Quit laughing," whispers Amber. We all look up and see a girl with brown hair in ringlets.
Mr Beddow beams at the class and announces
"Okay Everybody, this is Esther Luce pand..." we drone out his way too chirpy voice.
"But seriously? Do I have something on my face?" Amber whispers frantically, swiping at her face, narrowly missing the glob of glue stuck to her temple and side fringe. Me'n Katy take one look at each other and burst into hysterics. "Girls, show some respect! Esther doesn't want to feel uncomfortable in this class, do you?'' He said, treating her like a little kid when she was obviously 15. Esther shakes her head slowly, cleary showing that she's nervous. Katy and I are still laughing silently while Amber swipes ferociously through her hair.
''I wonder why she came to this school at such a random time... I mean, it's almost the end of the term for god's sake!'' I groan. Amber shakes her head ''Maybe she didn't like her old life and is trying to escape it?''.
As Mr Beddow's voice contiues it's droning, he says something that makes Amber look up.
''Now we need a volunteer to show Esther around the school and help her get her way around to lessons, anybody volunteer?'' there's a long awkward silence, everyone looking around the room, seeing who's daring to put their hand up. Amber nudges me slightly and whispers
''C'mon, she looks like she needs a freind, maybe we should volunteer? Random acts of kindness are good. Maybe she's one of us''. I groan again, I don't want anyone to join our little group, I like it just the way it is. But Amber puts her hand up anyway, Even though we haven't agreed. She's got to be kidding.
I attempt to shove her hand down, but Amber being stubborn keeps it straight up. Then Katy raises her hand too so I automatically stick my own hand up. Mr Beddow smiles
''I knew you girls would go for it!'' he said enthusiastically. Esther comes over slowly, taking shuffling steps. I immediately sense how mysterious she is and regret volunteering. Infact I blame Amber. She sits right next to Amber and sighs as the lesson continues. I'm glad Amber's on the end and not me. Knowing Amber, she breaks into conversation immediately with Esther, introducing herself and all. Esher shyly responds. Her voice is a lot different from ours- in a good way. I wouldn't call it an accent, it's more of a 'thicker' voice.
"This is Kayla and Katy, my two friends, I don't know how anybody could be bored- this is exciting! meeting new people,'' I know Amber was refering to me but I don't say anything. Katy nods politely at Esther and introduces herself. When I eventually pluck up the courage to say something, I just say ''Hi...'' making everything spontaneously awkward . Yes, I say one word in greeting but I can't help that.
