I don't know what happened, how it happened. Only that a few metres away from us something gave a loud pop and the air starts to fill with dangerous gas and my head starts to spin. "Everyone evacuate this building, leave everything behind, go to the playground!" Miss Edwards shouts as she pulls the trigger for the emergency fire alarm. Everyone's pushing towards the door, my head's still spinning, where's Kayla, Katy and Esther? I need to go find them but people are pushing me forwards, out of the door, along the corridor fast and I'm too small, too weak to go back to the classroom. "Kayla? Esther?! KATY!!! MISS EDWARDS!! " I find my voice and I shake my head to clear it but it's no good. I can't hear myself over the fire alarm and the screams. Tears start to blur my vision and I feel so hopeless. "Come on move out the way! do you want to get killed?!" people shout and scream at me. I ignore them. Dammit! I can't see! And I realise it isn't just my tears, it's smoke! I let out a sob and push back. Where is everyone? "Move it! Move it! Go to the playground!" A teacher down another corridor shouts. The air is stifling, I cough and blink through the smoke and gas! Kayla!! I break down in tears, inhaling more poisonous air. My throat's swollen I don't think I can breathe. The crowd of people are disappearing, wait for me! I'm alone with ringing in my ears and I can't breathe! Kayla! It feels like I'm inhaling fire. I can't see anything! Where am I? I trip over something hard and fall, too weak to brace myself. Hello sweet floor. Thank you for catching me. My vision and hearing's still messed up. Everyone's gone. What if Kayla, Esther and Katy are still up there? At this thought my stomach lurches with terror. I can't leave them! And as I pick myself up, my vision and hearing fade out for good, the last thing I see is a tall form running towards me. And the last thing I think? The Bunsen Burner! It was the goddamned Bunsen Burner...
