For the next 3 days, I conducted myself as properly as I could. Though it was uncomfortable for me as a proper princess is not allowed to talk or address servants or nobles with low rank. I was certainly not used to it because of my upbringing. As a result, I couldn’t help it but to greet everyone with a smile or a simple hello. The other princesses were looking disapprovingly at me but the queen seemed to feel that I was amusing.

In that 3 days, every night a princess would be disqualified and now only two left who were Princess Undine and me. When we heard about the queen’s decision in disqualifying princesses, we wondered what caused it. On the last night of the probation time, which I called it because the 3 days seemed like probation time, the queen explained how she qualified the princesses.

Firstly, in Princess Aprilynne case, she showed arrogance and cold hearted action. The queen explained that when she said that the temporary maidservant who was assigned to her died, she didn’t show any emotions and just act like it was nothing when the bond between master and servant would at least let the master care for the servant’s well being.

Secondly, for Princess Venus, she couldn’t stay confident and looked people on the eye. She was always looking down while walking and seemed unsure about everything she did. Sometimes, fear was written over her face especially when a certain princess here was glaring at her. A proper queen would be able to carry herself with more confidence and grace.

Thirdly, Princess Serafina was unable to show her wisdom in deciding what was best. At that time, she knew that a ‘thief’ broke into the castle but she didn’t inform the guards and tried to capture him by herself which was proven unwise. She could get hurt as a result. This showed that she couldn’t be a good queen as a good queen would think about her people as she acts and a queen getting hurt was surely not a good thing for her subjects.

Then, the queen said, “I offer my congratulations towards Princess Leticia and Princess Undine. Tomorrow, both of you will face the last test which will also determine the fate of Ecrutia.” She then explained why both of were qualified as the final candidate for the future queen of Ecrutia.

Princess Undine had proven herself worthy as she conducted herself perfectly for these three days. She also displayed unusual interest in the gold mines in Ecrutia which shows that she had started to think what she could do to improve Ecrutia’s condition to better. She always carried herself with confidence. There was a mysterious aura surrounded her which let other people to admire and look for her for solutions to their problems.

The queen explained that I was the most unusual princess who did not actually follow the princess’ protocol of not talking with servants. However, I proved that many people were able to open their heart because of my friendly gestures and kind heart. The queen also said that a proper queen should be able to not only let her subjects fear her but also respect her which I had unconsciously done it.

“These are the reasons why I approve these two princesses to face the last test. Are there anyone who would oppose or question my decision?” expectedly, no one raised their hands and the king formally accepted us as the winner and told us to enjoy our dinner.

The hall soon filled with music and people dancing. I didn’t feel like dancing tonight and so I stood at the corner and gaze upon the silver pearl in the sky. Suddenly, the queen approached me and said, “As I said before, you are an unusual princess but perhaps you are the kind of person our kingdom needs and the girl who Damien likes.” I just smiled and thanked her for the sweet comments but some part of my heart, I was afraid. If I really passed the contest, I would be unable to escape this place and would have to prioritize my duties first than my heart. Before the queen left me, she said that she expects a great deal from me which just adds to my burden. I sighed and walked away.
