That night, I slept heavily. I didn't have a nightmare, which I often had about Jake dying repeatedly, like a movie in my head. That was a relief and a surprise. I showered, dressed in jeans and a Journey t-shirt and went downstairs. My mom had apparently made breakfast again, which I appreciated because I was starving.

When I went into the kitchen, my mom was at the stove making bacon and my dad was putting up curtains. I laughed. "Dad, what are you doing?"

He gave me a dry look. "Your mother wanted me to put up these new lace blue curtains."

My mom gave him a scolding look. "It's called Waverly Falicite Indigo."

"You call it Waverly Falicite Indigo, I call it crap." he said indignantly.

I collapsed in a fit of giggles. After two startled looks from both my parents, they joined in the laughter. It was rather contagious.

My mom stopped and smiled at me. "You're in a really good mood. What gives?"

I shrugged. "I don't know, I just feel happier today."

My dad sat down at the table, having apprently finished his curtain job, and grabbed his coffe mug. He took a sip, then looked up at me. "I saw that you drove with Adrian last night."

So my dad had been spying, huh? Oh well. "Yes I did."

My mom looked astonished--and relieved. "Really? Well....would you like to run some errands for me?"

I now knew I could handle riding in cars, but could I handle driving one? I considered for a second.  "Yeah, sure. What?"

"Will you drive down to the grocery store and get me a few things? I made a list."

I said sure and went up stairs to grab my purse.

Where was it? I searched for my purse. I hadn't used it in so long, I lost track of it a long time ago. I looked on my desk, under my bed, and finally found it fallen behind the arm chair.

I stood up after grabbing it and nearly jumped out of my skin. Jake sat in the arm chair. "Jesus Christ, Jake! You nearly gave me a heart attack!"

Jake smiled. "You're in a better mood. I see that you're about to drive to Bertie's."

Bertie's was the name of the grocery store a couple blocks away. I nodded. For some reason, I felt like driving again would somehow be betraying him. I stood there, completely uncomfortable until he asked me what was wrong.

"Aren't you mad at me for driving?"

Jake looked puzzled. "Why would I be mad at you? I'm happy you're driving again. You're starting to get your life back. I don't even think you need me anymore." He smiled and paused a second, considering. "You know, Adrian and you would make a good match."

"What?" My mind reeled. "You want me with Adrian? What the hell? No, you can't just expect me to move on to someone new. How dare you!"

"You took him to Sebastiani Theatre." Jake said. He didn't say it accusingly, but I knew what he meant. I hadn't told Adrian this, but the first time Jake and I had gone out on a date, he had taken me to Sebastiani Theatre.
