After about a month, Adrian and I developed a routine. We’d have dinner with each other’s families every weekend. Adrian came up with the idea of a date night. Every Friday, we went out on a date somewhere in town. We also worked on the car in spare time. Adrian was excited because it was almost finished. It was just missing a few key parts and needed a paint job.

“Are you ready?” I heard a voice call from outside my door.

“Hold your horses!” I shouted back playfully.

Adrian laughed. I looked at myself in the mirror. Short jean skirt, flowing, silky black top with straps that exposed the shoulders, but covered the rest of my arms. I let my hair fall in perfect waves down my back. I quickly applied some mascara and lip gloss, threw on a pair of black flats and opened the door.

“Hey,” I said smiling.

“Hey, took you long….” Adrian said, trailing off at the sight of me. I smiled seductively. “Wow.”

“You like what you see, cowboy?”

Adrian pulled me in his arms and spun me around. I laughed and kissed him. “You don’t look too bad yourself.” He was wearing his usual blue jeans, faded in all the right places. He wore a tight black shirt that showed off his muscles nicely. He wore a button up dark grey shirt over his black t-shirt, unbuttoned.

His hair was getting longer, but it still hadn’t passed his ears. It was ruffled a bit from sleep, so that he looked like a cute baby fledgling. I resisted the urge to run my hands through it. Adrian was a bit of a diva when it came to his hair. He goes for the sexy, just rolled out of bed hair style and gets totally irked if someone touches his hair, especially his mom.

“Let’s go,” he said and we made our way to his truck, saying good bye to my parents on the way out, who smiles were so wide, I thought their cheeks would crack.

They still couldn’t over me actually looking happy. For a few months, I’d been a bit…well, depressionella you could say. But I was better. Don’t get me wrong, I was still working through it. But I was definitely better. Adrian made me happy.

When we stepped outside, I smiled at the warmth. It was April and it was warm. I loved the warmth, a hell of a lot better than cold. Spring had taken hold and everything was beautiful again. Flowers bloomed and animals were back out. The grass was a vibrant green instead of covered in snow or a dirty brown.

We got in his truck, me careful to pull my skirt down as I got in. Didn’t want any of my bits and pieces falling out now, did I?

As we pulled into the parking lot, I watched out my window as I saw Mitch pointing at us and say something to his friends. Then they laughed.

I shook my head. Gossip. It will always follow you, no matter where you go.

I rolled down my window as we pulled up next to Robbie’s car. Clyde was lying on the hood, seemingly sunbathing. Tessa was leaning against the side of the car, flirting with Robbie, as was typical of the two. Since the first day Tessa sat with us, Robbie had drooled over her and she drooled over him. But neither of them would make the first move. I think it was about time to talk to Robbie about asking her to Prom…
