After Morning Tea and a few more classes it was finally time for lunch. The twins were still following Scott around which he and Kira were getting very annoyed about so Scott texted her telling her to take a few specific bolts out of their bikes at lunch whilst he kept them occupied so that he could spend a little time alone, but I was pretty sure he was going to hang with Kira.
Anyway, I got roped into helping Kira which resulted in me leaning against a parked school bus waiting for her to finish, considering she kind of knew what she was doing while mechanics were still and probably always will be a mystery to me.
“You done yet?”
“Almost, you know you could help.” She said as she fiddled around with the engine.
“Yes. I could, but although I’m more than capable of putting a bike in a state where it won’t run, I’d probably do it in way that can’t actually be repaired and then the twins would actually kill me in a way where resurrection is far from impossible.”
“Resurrection is impossible.”
“No it’s not. Ask Peter, he’ll tell you all about it.”
“I haven’t met him, who is he?” She asked as she stood up and looked at me and then moved onto the second bike.
“Derek’s uncle. I’m probably the only person who can tolerate him.”
“Why?” it came out more of a grunt as she tried to unscrew a bolt.
“Because I came to realize that he killed someone who was even worse than himself. Thing 1 and Thing 2 on the other hand helped kill Boyd.”
She finished working on the other bike and stood up again, back to facing me. “And the other girl, right?” Apparently Scott had been catching her up.
“Erica.” I corrected her, “And possibly, but I think that was more Kali.”
“Who did Peter kill? And why do you call the twins Thing 1 and Thing 2?”
“The Cat in the Hat.” I stated in the most obvious way, “And ask Scott sometime. I’m sure he’ll tell you all about it. I wasn’t in the loop, so to speak, at the time. I only just found everything out the night Peter died.”
“He actually died?” Her eyes widened.
“Yep. Half burnt alive and then Derek slit his throat to become alpha.”
“I thought Scott was alpha…” Kira said, uneasily, as if she believed Scott had killed someone to get his position.
“He is, but he’s a true alpha. He rose by the sheer power of his character or something equally moral. Derek’s a beta again now. His younger sister Cora was sick and he healed her, but it weakened him to a beta state. Look I could stand here for hours trying to catch you up, but you’d still be behind. Let’s go in.” She nodded in agreement, probably still trying to take everything in.
As we were walking in I saw a familiar tall, muscly stature out the corner of my eye. I sighed and Kira turned back around to face me. “You keep going, there’s something I have to do.” I said nodding to my left. She looked over and saw Derek and then nodded again and continued to go inside.
I spun on my heels and started walking towards Derek. When I reached him my immediate introduction was, “What are you doing here?”
“I’m watching Scott.”
“Scott’s on the other side of the building with Ethan and Aiden.”
“I know, but I saw you come outside and wanted to speak to you.”
