When we got to school we saw Scott running down the stairs, looking behind him. It was as if he was running from his own shadow.
“Whoa, Scotty.” I said as Stiles reached out and grabbed him.
“You alright?” Stiles asked him.
He nodded a little, “Scott…” I started.
“I’m okay.” He said, but not reassuringly.
“No, you’re not. It’s happening to you too. You’re seeing things aren’t you?” Stiles said.
“How’d you know?” Scott asked.
“Because it’s happening to all of you.” Lydia said, walking up with Allison.
“It’s not happening to me.” I quickly added.
“No, but you’re a homicidal mermaid.” Lydia said. I narrowed my eyes at the word mermaid. I wasn’t a mermaid and I hated people saying it. I also wasn’t homicidal… yet.
“Nix.” Stiles corrected. “She gets angry if you call her a mermaid, like she’ll steal your dessert.” Scott looked at Stiles and then at me with a confused expressed and I shook my head telling him to just go with it.
I ate Stiles dessert the other night because he called me a mermaid. What can I say? They were waffles. We started heading towards the school. “Well, well, look who’s no longer the crazy one.” Lydia said.
“We are not crazy.” Allison jumped in with a determined voice.
“Hallucinating, sleep paralysis, homicidal tendencies, yeah you guys are fine.” Lydia said, sarcastically.
“I don’t have homicidal…” Scott shut me up and stopped me from stepping forward. All he had to do was raise his eyebrows. “Don’t you go all alpha on me, mister.”
“Wow, someone really needs their boyfriend back in town.” Lydia said.
Stiles’ eyes went wide and he started flaying his arms around. “Don’t bring that up.” He said to Lydia “Seriously short temper.” He said, pointing to me. Scott was still holding my arm.
“Okay, enough. We did die and come back to life, it has to have some side effects, right?” Scott said as the bell rang.
“Okay, everyone keep an eye on each other, alright? And Lydia stop enjoying this so much.” Stiles said as he walked to class.
Scott, still holding my arm, pulled me away a bit until we were alone. “Okay, what is going on with you? I know the whole Nix thing has its really bad side effects, but you looked like you wanted to rip Lydia’s head off. She’s one of your best friends. I thought you said you were fine when you were around us.”
“I am. I feel perfectly fine, Scott.”
“What happened to Scotty?”
“You’re annoying me.”
“That’s what I mean, Anna! I haven’t done anything. Lydia didn’t do anything, you’re overreacting and I don’t like the sound of it. Not with whatever is happening to you. I thought Peter was teaching you control.”
“He is, but he isn’t answering his phone. I haven’t seen him in two days. And for the record Lydia…”
“Didn’t do anything.” Scott repeated. “Nothing that is uncharacteristic of her anyway. Now Stiles and I have History which means you have art. Find Isaac and stay with him, please.”
“But…”
“No buts.” He said in his alpha tone. When I didn’t move he rolled his eyes, picked me up and threw me over his shoulder.
“Scott! Scott McCall, put me down!” he kept walking. I put on my best sweet voice, “Scotty, please. I’ll be good, I promise.” He chuckled.
When he lowered me to the ground I was standing between Isaac and his locker. “Keep her in your sight.”
He nodded and then smiled at me when Scott walked away. “Oh, get that grin off your face.”
He put an arm around my shoulder and started to walk, “Sorry, alpha’s orders.”
